Hey all!

I always feel like I come here asking for suggestions, but hopefully they're not too annoying. I always get good responses, too smile

Basically - I'm setting up a Facebook page dedicated to my playing in order to drum up some business for teaching and get a bit or recognition in my hometown (not for the glory or anything silly like that - I just want to make a living). I'd also like some good encore pieces. To do this I was thinking of recording some short pieces for said Facebook page that show off technique, but are also just catchy, pretty, striking, etc. I'd love to venture a little further off the map - no need to stick to the bit composers, if they're under two minutes, that'd be great.

And just for context difficulty isn't too much of a problem - currently also working on Liszt's Benediction de Dieu and Ballade 2, Chopin Op. 10 (4, 8, 9), Op. 25 No. 10, Prokofiev Violin Sonata No. 2, and a selection of Scarlatti Sonatas.

Thanks much!

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

Chopin Etude op.10-1, Preludes 8, 16, 24 (especially 16 if you can play it)

Several of the Grieg Lyric Pieces and the Mendelssohn Song Without Words could certainly fit the category.

Narcissus by Nevin is something everyone would recognize, as is Mendelssohn's Spring Song. However, most people will not notice how difficult they are.

Any number of Scriabin preludes seem to fit your criteria. A favorite of mine is Op. 17 No. 5 in F minor.

Several of Ginastera's 12 American Preludes might work. I'm partial to the third, Danza criolla. There's also an early Malambo of his that's spectacular and exciting.

MacDowell's "March Wind" etude, op. 46, no. 10, is fairly brief and effective.

Ignaz Friedman wrote a tiny little wisp of a double note etude that's over before you know it. Fun stuff. It's his op. 63, no. 15.

There are many Prokofiev pieces that would work, I think. Besides the well-known things from his op. 12 and the Visions Fugitives, the 4 Pieces, op. 32, might also be worth a look.

The nocturnes by Field might have something you could use, too.
