Had some small issues hitting a wrong note, pounding one of the chords too hard, small hesitation and I don't think my staccatos are staccato-y enough they sound a bit too long.

It's a learning process though.

I am working on 599 also and I was looking at #12. My version doesn't have any staccato notes at all. What notes are staccato in your version? Just curious.

Sorry for the late reply it has been nearly impossible for me to access the boards since the new version went live. Keeps hanging on me and freezing.

The staccato notes are all of the quarter notes that are in the measures. Those are the only ones.

Still need more practice with playing the same note using different fingers. One of these days I'll get used to it and it'll become second nature.

Just dropping by to say that I started a 30-day free trial of Scribd, which is an online digital library, and I'm finding a great wealth of material for the challenge, sight-reading, quick studies, and other piano pieces in general. There are good scans of ABRSM books, including the jazz piano series that I was looking for, exam pieces, scales, etc., and I'm sure there's a lot of other things that I have yet to find.

I don't know if I will go on with the paid subscription, but it's definitely worth a look!

Can I still join? Might be a bit late, but I think I can make a good crack at reaching 40 still.

I've started playing January 2017, Nothing is too easy is where I keep track of my progress.

Welcome, Keselo. And, join us!

The purpose of this club is to play a lot of pieces in one year. In the very first post of this thread there are links to some very interesting articles describing the benefit of playing a lot of pieces. So, the number 40 is somewhat arbitrary. The important thing is to receive the benefit of learning and playing a lot of pieces.

So, you can still get the benefit by learning pieces at a pace of about 4 per month. Jump in and get the benefit. Don't worry about finishing 40 before the end of the calendar year.

Good luck to you. smile

Life has been crazy! But I've been playing a whole lot! Bold type is new

"Pathways to Artistry" Masterworks, Book 1 📚- Catherine Rollin Alfred (20)

"Pathways to Artistry" Repertoire, Book 1- Catherine Rollin Alfred
21. Little Invention

"Microcosmos" Book 1- Bela Bartók
#s 1 - 12. (33)

Czerny Opus 599
#s 1 - 16. (49)

That puts me over 40! Yay! Now my goal is double that. I have recorded the Mikrocosmos and Czerny, but can't seem to get the files to load into Soundcloud. Still working on it. It will be a flood of recordings when I figure it out.

I'm currently working on Czerny Opus 139, #1 - 10.

I so agree! I loved Melanie's recording of Bach BWV And 116 so much, that I have started working on it, even though it's beyond my level right now... And her others are just as excellent.

Wow! Thank you for your compliment! I feel very much motivated by your words! I have always struggled with the tone of my playing, which was why I gave up playing around 15 years ago. I started learning to play music since I was 6, my principle instrument was a Yamaha Electone ( a type of synthesizer that looks like an organ), until I was 18. I switched to Jazz piano since then, and without a proper foundation in piano technique, it was quite a disaster and I gave up after 2 years. I knew my way around a keyboard, I knew the theory and rhythm, but I couldn't bring myself to enjoy playing.

In November last year, a good friend who was moving away gave me her acoustic piano. I started my journey in Classical piano after a month of researching, reading and listening. I wanted to focus more on building up proper technique, but at the same time make the pieces sound like music, and learn to enjoy playing them. I came across this forum in April and joined this thread immediately. I am grateful for the support because it is helping me in achieving my goals.

So, once again, thank you for your kind words! And to bSharp(C)yclist: I wish you all the best in you coming piano exam. I have just finished learning Clementi's Sonatina Op. 36 No.1, I will record it when I have time this weekend.
