As of 9 o clock last night, I am the proud owner of a used $100 dollar wonder kurzweil mark 10W.

I bought it knowing it needs work.

The issues so far are.
1. The action is very clunky.
2. The volume goes up and down randomly when I play it.

I don't want to pay a technician to come and look at it. I'd rather do it myself if I can.

I had a Kurzweil Mark 10 for years and loved it. When I got a new keyboard because I needed something portable I gave it to a church that is still using it. The keyboard was not it's strong point but it was acceptable to me. The sound system never gave me any trouble.

Good luck, it's lots of fun to play on.

Thank you Roger,
Yes it is a very nice looking piano. I'll have to get used to the keyboard which feels way different than my upright acoustic. But I want to be able to play silently. I haven't tried headphones to see if the same symptoms exist but that it my next step.

Here is another thing I found

The two batteries that are on the main board say 16V and each have only 4.95

The button battery says 5.5 and has only 4.95 volts.

Could this possibly be a reason why I'm having these symtoms?

No. Problems with the contact sensor pads cause the volume irregularities. You'll need to replace them. If you can find the parts you might be able to repair this for $100. If you need a tech to do the work, at least $200, maybe $300.

Macmacmac,
Are the contact sensor pads the small rubber "buttons" with two circles that make contact with the sensor? I have taken the action out and I can see how to replace them. I will be trying it.
