Found a piano I'm thinking about buying just for the heck of it. It's a Lakeside piano with a serial number 142124. It really looks like it was, at one point, a player piano. It also appears it has ivory keys and has probably the ugliest cabinet I've ever seen. Don't have any pictures but can anyone give me an idea of how old it is and how much I should pay for it?

That's an ex-player piano from 1923. My suspicion is that someone should be paying you for taking it off their hands...

True. I've heard that you could get 500-1000 dollars for the ivory laminate before the laws tightend up. Any idea realisticly you could get now. Keeping in mind selling the ivory is pretty illegal.

Don't sell the ivories.
The piano is probably worthless. An off-brand ex-player vertical (I assume) piano is not really what anybody wants in the resale market, and hasn't been for decades.

I'm curious where you heard 500 to 1000 for ivories. I remember a year or two ago that someone still had on their site that they'd buy ivory. If memory serves, they were offering about 50¢ for good keytops, and a premium whole dollar for C8 (since it's full width and rarer). I don't see it online anymore.

I don't think ivory is worth messing with from a profit standpoint. And it's become a paperwork hassle.

Somewhere on the internet. At this point I'm not going to trust it at all. I have some people locally that fashion jewelry, possibly would be interested in the ivory.

Our fee for hauling it away would be in the $500 to $1,000 range. Depending on the complexity of the move.

I've moved a baby grand before but for this case I care not for the condition afterwards so I'm just going to use my forklift.

Please, for the sake of humanity, run the forklift tines through the soundboard and, if possible, the string frame casting. Do whatever it takes to prevent its continued affliction on society.

I have 5 wood burners here. So I could use such an instrument.
