I downloaded the Piano in 162 from Ivy Audio. Didn't start well, as the Kontakt free player wouldn't acknowledge it as a Kontakt library, when I clicked Add library, in the player's interface.

However, by right-clicking the NKI file in Windows Explorer, and choosing to open it with Kontakt, Piano in 162 loaded up in demo mode. I could play it with my piano, though there's probably the fifteen minute time limit. I had copied the whole library to the same map, as where my Giant is.

I think I even like Piano in 162 more than the Giant. Has a better ring to it, the Giant sounds suppressed somehow to my ears. Like I'm listening to a piano behind a wall. I recommend this library, which you can get by clicking here.

Actually I got it by signing up to VSTBuzz. They give you direct links, not bittorrents. The library is split up in nine RAR files for Kontakt, seven, I believe, for Sfzorzando. There was noone seeding when I tried the Bittorrent links, so I went for VSTBuzz instead.

Theodor, the website for that library specifically states that "This is NOT a Kontakt player library, and requires a full version of Kontakt to run. If you're looking for a completely free option, download the SFZ version and load it into a free sampler like Plogue Sforzando."

In other words, you either need to upgrade to Kontakt Full, or get the Sforzando version.

I'm telling you it runs in demo mode in the Kontakt player. I know about the Sforzando version, and I might try it, since I didn't see any changeable settings in Kontakt player, like tone, reverb etc. I just thought Kontakt was a more quality platform than Sforzando, and therefore the piano would sound better in Kontakt.

Maybe it won't, and if Piano in 162 is more tweakeble in Sforzando, then that version is a better choice, than the one which runs in Kontakt demo mode. Maybe that's the advantage of getting the full Kontakt, that you can edit the pianos more, at least the ones which are unlicensed in the Kontakt free player?

The 162 sounds way to brittle to me.

I remember it being completely unplayable, due to a very high and varied latency from note to note. I assumed it was due to poor sample trimming - i.e - a lot of silence at the beginning of the samples. If it's a system problem, then no other library has this problem for me.

Greg.

I've noticed something with Piano in 162, which puts a big question mark to the playability of it. When I release the sustain pedal a split second after I change chords, and press the pedal again, the sustain is off, and stays off, even though the pedal is down again.

This is a recommended technique, not to press the pedal, at the same time as you play a new chord. The chord transition won't sound as smooth, as when you lift and press the pedal, after you've switched to the new chord.

This is bad, because I want to obtain legato. This does not happen with the Giant. The difference between commercial, and non-commercial products?
