Received a free Yamaha Clavinova CLP 20. I know it's an old one, but it works. Made in 1985. Does not have a stand. It's big and heavy. Any recommendations for a stand would be appreciated. I don't want it to fall into my lap. This keyboard for nighttime practice with headphones. Acoustic too loud for people sleeping. Your input appreciated.

Any common adjustable heavy duty stand will do. The finer the adjustment the better so you can have it just (about) right. Depends on your stool/bench too of course.

There are X stands. The sturdier ones are "double X" as they are made of two parallel beams/pipes. X-stands can be wobbly. But they are (can be) cheap.

Then there are the other types. Some are "table style" with four legs. Probably a good idea. Then there are those double-Z style ones. Maybe okay two if the horizontal beam between the two Z-shaped ends don't get in the way. Then there are the ones with just one vertical pipe in both ends. Maybe a good option and not too ugly. Like the K├Ânig & Mayer:

(K&M are expensive though...)

What's available to you in the local music stores in New Orleans? Or locally as second hand?

There have been threads on general purpose stands. Usually an x stand is not recommended, even a double braced one especially if you are tall. So called table top stands seem popular, also z stands, I myself have a quiklok ws650.

Thanks so much for the input. I thought the X stands would work too well as I thought my legs or knees would hit the supports. I'm not tall, but the cross pieces seem like they would get in the way. I'm not sure what's available in New Orleans yet, but will be checking out one music store for sure this weekend.
