Hello,

About 2 years ago, i bought the P-70. Before that, I played a digital keyboard, so the transition between these two was huge. Now I want to buy an electric piano that's better than the p-70, because this one is beginning to sound less well than all the newer electric piano's, so I just want to upgrade mine.

Now I first want to sell this one of course, but I really don't know what it is worth. You just can't buy it online (not in my country anyway). I live in the Netherlands, so our currency is in Euro's.

With the P-70, comes an X-stand, a stool and a Yamaha metronome

So can anyone tell me the price for which I can sell it? I hope it can be around or above €250 or so.

If money is tight for you, sell it now and take what you can.

If you can afford to wait, buy your new keyboard and take your time selling the P-70. The P-70 was released back in 2006 and in electronics that's several generations.

My rule of thumb is to start at 50 percent of the original price and adjust downward.

The P70 is REALLY old. It's got a budget action, very old tone generator and low polyphony. As it has moving parts and consumables there is probably wear/tear to take into account as well. Yamaha's current lowest end piano P45 or P71) is superior in nearly every respect, and that goes for ~$400 brand new with factory warranty.

I would say it's maybe worth $100, but if you want to list it for 250eur and see who bites, I wouldn't be surprised if you found a hapless buyer somewhere. You might have to wait a while to snag that fish though.

The P70 dates to 2005 or 2006. It's not that old.

Not sure how things work in your neck of the woods but here the whole used music equipment is a buyers market. There is 10 sellers for each buyer. What really works if you need to sell is simply to put the price lower than everybody else. Even that is no guarantee it will sell if it isn't something people are crazy about.
If you want to sell quickly, you are going to chase impulsive buyers with the crazy low, low , low price. Other option is to put a reasonable price and then wait for someone looking for exactly the model you are selling. (for whatever reason). This may take months!
I do sell a lot of used stuff (electronics, keyboards etc...) and it is getting harder and harder as there is no shortage of anything.
And: Always ask honestly yourself, would YOU buy the same old DP for that money right now if someone will offer it to you and you have none? The chance is you will say "no way, that's crazy". So then you know.

Definitely try selling it for 250 Euro, but also be willing to negotiate.

Another option is that if no one bites on the price you want to get for it, consider donating it to a non-profit company that gives instruments to underprivileged children. I'm not sure what is in Europe, but I know of a few in the US that do this. There was one that I belonged to as a teacher where I would give students who qualify a scholarship, and this organization would provide them with an instrument.

Something to think about. smile
