Hi all

I am 28 years old and am starting to learn to play piano. I have tried to learn multiple times over the last couple of years but have never been consistent with my practice. This time I have decided to document my journey of learning piano, in the hope that it would keep me motivated and also let other beginners know that the problems and frustrations they face are not limited to just them. Also it would show people how fast/slow I am progressing which might help them judge their learning as well.I usually post once in two days. My publication can be found at

https://medium.com/howilearntpiano

I would love to hear if any of you guys find this useful and relate to it. If yes, it would be another motivating factor for me to keep on publishing these.

Thanks
Vaibhav

I like your blog. I think it will be really helpful to people who are just starting out to see your progress and hopefully learn from the things you've learned. I hope it helps keep you motivated.

Great blog, I was thinking of doing something similar. But you have such an interesting writing style that I don't think I can be that engaging smile

I have subscribed to your channel, I have now been playing a week, and will be putting videos up every week or so of my progress so I can look back when I hit the inevitable plateau and see how I have progressed.

Thanks Sara.

@Lihp Its awesome that you like the blog. I would strongly encourage you to write as well. It sort of keeps me on track so that I practice everyday, because otherwise I won't have anything to write about. Recording also helps. Not just to see where you are but when you put it out in public, you want to play it right. I have been trying to record a piece for the past half an hour and have not been able to produce something that I am not totally embarrassed of uploading. Also, it would be great for me to read what you experience throughout this journey.

I am following the Michael Aaron Grade 1 book. The next piece I am trying to learn is called Banjo. Haven't been able to get it right yet frown

If you have to change hand position, take all the time in the world to put your hand in the new position before resuming playing.

At least while you are practicing. Once you have learned how much to move the hand, you can speed it up.

Thanks for the advice. I realised it would be practically impossible to play any complex piece if I cannot move my hand to a new position without taking my eyes off of the sheet. Am working on this.

Also ....

when you take your eyes off the sheet ...

You might try to memorize a portion of the music in that area so you can keep playing in-time and then look back at the sheet to a specific place that you will begin "reading" again. Try making the place where you begin reading again ... the beginning of a new phrase ... but it doesn't have to be. Just make it a place where you can comfortably start reading again.

Great post.

Out of curiosity what are you using to record the piano?

I actually don't have a Piano. I am using a Yamaha PSR i425 Keyboard. Using GarageBand for recording.

Hanon: The Virtuoso Pianist in 60 Exercises

It's a most promising title.
But are you sure you are ready for this?
