I'm going to buy a digital piano. There is a shop here where they sell the "Dynatone" brand, for me, an unknown brand, but it is a very versatile piano. And the price is nice. Anyone who knows anything more about this brand?

I'd rather pay a little more and buy an established and better known brand, but maybe that's just me.

The company has been around for a long time and their products are often sold also under other brands (just like Medeli). I like the two main grand piano sounds of the recent models based on YouTube videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/dynatonecorporation), but don't really know anything beyond that. The recent models do really look good just based on specifications, but that's not the whole truth of course.

In Europe a few models are sold e.g. under the names Steinmayer (the latest models), Broadway, Digiano and Pianova (mostly older models). I haven't seen much reviews apart from Broadway at UK Pianos where everybody always absolutely loves every model.

Would be fun to try one out, but they are not extremely cheap, though the SLP-250H is probably the cheapest digital piano I could get with a tri-sensor action and both damper and string resonance and the DPR-3500 the cheapest one I could get with all that and also (more or less) wooden keys, accompaniment styles and cabinet resonance. (And a UI that doesn't force me to buy an iPad!)

But it's even hard to find any demos of all the other sounds let alone the accompaniment styles. And even harder to see a one in real-life. (I personally would have to order from Germany with the option to return within 60 days.)

Sarah64, Yamaha and Kawai actually make acoustic pianos. That's something to consider. I recently sold a Yamaha stage piano and ordered a Roland stage piano. I'm not married to any particular brand.

I've made my income for the last 40+ years from the piano and I've never heard of that company.

Spend your money how you wish. If you buy a Dynatone piano, report back and give us a review.

Sorry but you need to get real. Awful piercing one dimensional sound. A very low level model from any of the following....Yamaha, Kawai, Roland, Korg, Kurzweil, Casio....will be VASTLY better.

Yamaha has been around since ... 1887.
Roland has been around since 1972 and Kawai ... 1927.

All of those companies have been around longer than Dynatone.

There are a few "grand" sounds listed in the documentation, but no demos of those anywhere to be found(?).

A joke, surely?...a sound so thin you could slide it under a door. Sounds like a toy in the upper range. Yuck!

The current SDP-600 it is fun to note they mention the cabinet is made the same way as an acoustic piano, but has 30% less weight
Must be one of the heaviest digitals around ^^

The place to keep an eye on according to Dynatone

I now have my piano a few days at home and I am very satisfied. I bought the piano 2nd hand, and lacked the manual. Email to Dynatone Uk and the same day I had my manual though. The sound is very beautiful, and there are many possibilities, such as split and layer and a lot of voices. For someone who first played on a Yamaha keyboard, this is heaven I can even play the chords with my left hand because the keys are slightly larger and firmer. (I have problems with pinky and ring finger) Overall ... very happy for the price of 450 euros.

Sounds like a bit older Clavinova, I guess. Some models have EQ so the bright Yamaha sound could be mellowed down a bit.

I got an email from Dynatone - they will be including more youtube videos soon, and they have a stand at the upcoming Musik Messe in Frankfurt.

I can't remember if they were there this year, but Dynatone had a huge (i.e. expensive) display in Lounge88 at NAMM the past two years.

They showed a full range of product/case styles, and were featuring a player-style grand with moving keys both years. Although the setting in that room was not conducive to testing pianos critically (noisy), I can at least attest the digital grands have ample power on the amplifier/speaker side of things...

A local "all purpose electronics store" here just started selling the Dynatone SLP-210 for 699.90 €. Let's see how that goes. They did sell Dynatone for a while years ago, but I have no idea what people thought of those models back then.

It's a very basic model with no resonances of any kind. A much better model is sold in Germany for 849.00 €, so it's only 150 € more for damper and string resonance.

They are now making ground, judging by the specs. Wooden actions, triple sensors, various resonance implementations.

That said, I am utterly convinced they are using a previous generation Yamaha sample but perhaps with resonances added. I have this strong suspicion that Yamaha has sold one of their older sounds to a number of makers. I had a Ketron GP1 for a while a few months ago and its second piano was unmistakably something based on the old Yamaha Power Grand sound, as is this Dynatone sound (to my ears anyway!).
