Just curious if any of the Chopin aficionados on this site are following the Ninth National Chopin Piano Competition in Florida (chopin.org, with live streaming through March 1, which IS Chopin's birthday) - and if anyone has favorites?

There is my friend starting there and he is my favorite of course wink. And I'm looking forward to Wright's performance, he is so helpful and kind.
We'll see in two days who is finalist!

What do you think about this?

I did not like it either. I prefer Rubinstein and I found recently another one which I like it as well:

Thanks for posting about this (the Chopin competition)! Just tuning in now. I'll be interested in Josh Wright's performance too (as in Josh who does the tutorials right?).

Yes, the Josh Wright who does those excellent tutorials! That's how I learned about this; he said he would stop posting for a week or so to participate in this competition. So interested in what happens with this. I'm following another competitor as well.

It seems that Yundi slipped away from the Chopin competition jury for a few days to be best man for his friend's wedding in Shanghai.

Yundi back on jury

Although I was conscious that I'd been in Warsaw 5 years ago as of this week, it somehow hadn't gotten through to me that the finals of the competition were going on right now.

I've been away from Pianoworld for a considerable time and was wondering... anyone know how Kathleen, the originator of this wonderful thread, is?

Sorry, but, you are the only one left who likes Chopin! blush

We're all into Klownye West now. Love how he rips microphones out of women's hands! laugh

There is news, though, even after all this time:
(Probable) new Chopin photo found

I've had a lot of administrative duties elsewhere on the web and haven't been around here. Glad to know that Kathleen is still on the planet!

I'm still playing Chopin, of course, but have been working a lot with studying Baroque and Classical period performance practice lately, following Wim Winters' work in particular.

A couple of thoughts .....

The original links are longer working. Is this due to the piano world upgrade and if so, has a been reported ?

For the Chopin devotees, why don't we discuss the following:

What books we have read about Chopin or his works
What repertoire we are currently working on it or have just finished

Just a couple of thoughts if you want me to start a topic about any of these
