Very nice promo video!

Yes, I first read about the 'Kiyola' in this month's Japan Music Trades magazine, so I believe it's a new model.

I rather like it, although this may be because I've lived in Japan for quite a while. Specifications are pretty good: PHA-50 action, modelled sound, Bluetooth.

More info here:
http://www.roland.com/products/kiyola_kf-10/

I rather like the look of that too. Doesn't really go with my decor, but I would consider such a purchase. It's good that DP's break away from traditional aesthetic designs, where they don't have the constraints imposed by acoustics. Of course 'the market' decides on the success or otherwise, and I wonder how it plays and sounds?

Well someone fascinated by the craft of making acoustical instruments might find it a little odd to see all this woodwork just for the stand...

This piano looks great, hats off to Roland for the design. Interesting also is the 4 speaker system. I'm guessing this will sound bigger and better than the F140R. This could be a big seller. I'm intrigued also about the price. Does anyone know how much this will be selling for?

I really like the look of that.

Im wondering about the midi implementation. The spec mentions midi under Bluetooth but not under the 'Connectors' part. Would it be midi via the USB connector I wonder?

In one of the pictures they showed there is USB MIDI as well as USB slot for a thumb drive.

I really like it! I especially like the top, how the entire thing becomes the music desk. Finally a DP with sufficient room for all my music sheets! smile

I like it a lot. A bit Scandinavian looking. Which is okay by me!

Does this thing have a screen? Or do you have to access everything with an iPhone/iPad?

Btw - I'm guessing VERY expensive!

... funny how Roland positions this model above LX-7 and just below LX-17 on their website.

http://www.roland.com/categories/pianos/premium_upright_pianos/

That's a hint on its pricing, I suppose. A refreshing look, yes, but it's a stripped down model nonetheless. Someone will pay the premium for a few pieces of oak boards - just to look different - that's for sure.

Well spotted WarrenY, that's a shame as the LX 7 is going for £2500! If this piano was £1500 I would be tempted, however at the LX prices I guess I'll have to just look at the pictures, oh and play it for 5 minutes in the store...or maybe 10.

Pricing typically varies from one region to the next, however one of Japan's major musical instrument retailers has the KF-10 listed at 320,000 JPY. For comparison, the Ebony Polish LX-7 is listed at 309,000 JPY. Both prices excluding tax.

Wow, spendy. I wasn't entirely enamored with the sound on the demos (hammer noise was too loud I think), but there's some ability to reconfigure these things.

Still, it's quite nice looking and I can imagine it would fit perfectly in a Japanese home, or a more minimalist decor.

I don't believe so.

My understanding was that it had something to do with US restrictions on importing finished wood products. We have no such restrictions in Canada. But I don't believe that US Customs will allow this instrument to enter the country.

Has anyone actually bought a Kiyola yet? I'm looking for a digital piano and very taken with the sound of the Casio Grand Hybrid 400. But the looks of the Kiyola appeal to me.

How does it sound? Retailers here in Germany have been waiting and waiting and now say mid-July is a realistic delivery date.

How does the Kiyola compare sound/action to other Rolands?

How much of the price is for looks?

Very nice -- "mid-century modern" (= Swedish) styling.

But:

Tones:

. . . For performance: 6 Tones (Grand Piano: 3 Tones, Upright Piano: 1 Tones, E.Piano: 1 Tones)

. . . For data playback: 265 Tones (including 8 drum sets, 1 SFX set), Conforms to GM2

Some {unprintable} marketer(s) decided to include a GM2 sound generator, and not let the player use it "live". I can't believe that decision was driven by the engineering team. [Sorry, Jay -- that wasn't aimed at you.]

Has anyone here actually bought a Kf-10 Kiyola?

Can they please report their experiences?

A read a review on Thomann.de saying that the unit swayed from left-to-right. Any similar experiences?

This instrument is high on my list but I know of no one who owns one. Roland Germany cannot tell me when the one I ordered (in July) will arrive. They are only the manufacturer...

I don't own one but played one in Vienna. Although distracted by the N2 near it I was interested in the 'cabinet' design as part of its appeal is the simplicity. So I had a good look around. I don't recall it swaying or being wobbly at all, but didn't actually test for that. The assembly instructions suggest there is scope for user error. Just like IKEA!
