1. MOYD 2017; I was a late starter in 2016 but only missed a few days when I was out of town. It definitely made an impact on my playing. 2. 40 pieces a year; I didn't record much in 2016; it would be unrealistic to think I can record them all this year, but I want to record at least 20 of them 3. Work on one of my scales everyday, right at the beginning of practice. I procrastinate on this and then end up trying to catch up right before my lesson. 4. Sight read something new at least three times a week. 5. Memorize three new pieces this year 6. Go back and record Rebikov's Waltz in F# minor and Sreabbog's The Orphan. These were two I started on right when I got my teacher last year. I should have recorded them then, but I want to this year because I really liked both of them. 7. Do a piano world recital

For 2017 my piano goals:
1. Join 40 pieces tread again and upload at least 5 pieces to the thread 2. Take the Intermediate theory exam 3. Take the RCM level 6 practical exam 4. Revise and polish a late intermediate repertoire 5. Participate in at least 2 e-citals on PW 6. Participate in a master class or summer piano retreat 7. Hear the music I play and enjoy it

Albunea and PianoStudent88, you convinced me, I am going there to try Welcome to the club! But doesn't that mean that you already failed your first goal for 2017? On the very first day even?

I went to check your first goal, michaelvi. I am afraid Jobert is right: If you pay attention to PianoStudent88, and especially to me, your piano life will become very disorganized. Anyway, I think you'll really like the 40 pieces challenge. Jobert, there is no emoticon for sticking out tongues.

michaelvi, you might like this thread . It's about Sight Reading, but also related to the 40 pieces a year.

But fortunately I am allowed to disagree with you and that is NOT an "excuse" - when I was talking about better organize my life I meant to make it possible to allocate more of my time for piano. Unless I misunderstood again the scope of "40 pieces", signing up there implies spending time WITH piano so, honestly, I don't see any contradiction here BTW JoBert, yesterday I followed some links to your recordings (in that 40 pieces thread) and really - I mean REALLY and HONESTLY! - enjoyed some of them. I could probably add one more goal to my list, something like "to record at least one piece with 10% of JoBert's level of playing" (but of course with my own interpretation ), but it is late - the year has started already

Oof. I'm pretty sure I didn't reach my goals for 2016--I need to go read the other thread to see--so I'll try to be more realistic this year: 1.) Continue my streak of participating in all AB Forum Quarterly Recitals. 2.) Learn and record 10 new pieces and upload to my YouTube channel. 3.) Play for somebody other than my immediate family on 2-4 other occasions. 4.) At the end of the year, create my "Solo Piano" CD to give to family members and document my progress. It will be Volume 10 if I am successful. My son will be leaving home to go to college in the fall of 2017, at which point I should have a heck of a lot more free time. So I look forward to ramping up my piano goals considerably in 2018.

In November I am taking AMEB's grade 5 exam, some time before that the AMEB grade 3 theory exam as well. This makes setting my 2017 goals easier than previous years, all I have to do is bring everything up to grade 5, how hard could that be?

My goals for 2017:
1. MOYD 2017. In 2016, before I joined PW, I played every day (when I was home) inspired by a book about habit forming. I found it very beneficial, so I will continue this year. 2. 40 pieces challenge to practice sight reading. I will choose some easier pieces on my own because my teacher likes to give me stretch pieces and I need a couple of months for each of those. 3. Learn all 12 little preludes from Bach. 4. Learn La fille aux cheveux de lin by Debussy 5. Learn sonata k545 by Mozart (not to full tempo) 6. Play more in front of others. 7. Practice 400 hours 8. Submit a piece in at least 2 recitals here at PW 9. Ear training 5min every day

My goals:
1. Finish Alfred 1 This is the easy one out as I am almost finished.
2. Reach Page 118 (Petzold - Minuet in G) in Fundamental Keys This is where I plan to do most of my work this year. It will be quite a challenge.
3. 40 pieces challenge Let's see how this turns out.
4. Have fun and still be playing at the end of the year Just like last year, my most important goal.
Oh, almost forgot: 5. Do some practice on a grand piano I own a DP, and I think it is time to get used to an acoustic as well. I want to find a practice room where I can play on the real thing every once in a while.

Goals for 2017:
1) Complete first ever MOYD. I fell into the bad habit of skipping piano for weeks on end last year. 2) Finish up to level 3 in my Piano Scales Chords Arpeggios book, about 80 pages in. 3) Play FFVII World theme, but not to performance standard. It's far above my level but it's been my main driving force since I started. I'm eager to finish learning it this year. 4) Maybe buy a new piano.

Can you link me to the FFVII music? I would love to have it. http://www.finalfantasymusicscores.com/FFMS/PIANO.htmlThe site owner created a few scores for FFVII and I bought an OST book from Amazon that has much simpler versions of all the songs. I'm hoping to move on to the Piano Collection versions someday once I get the world theme down.

1. MOYD 2017 - year 4 for me 2. Follow my teacher's practice plan (main rep pieces, scales & arps, other technical work) 3. Revisit 5 selected pieces previously learned but not at a great level (eg from the last 2 years of the 40 piece challenge) and bring them to a more polished level (Satie Gymnopedie #1 is top of the list) 4. Select 5 pieces that were properly learned (at least when you compare to the pieces I'm talking about in #3!) and relearn/maintain these 5. Explore a bit with lead sheets/play by ear/Irish trad/jazz I'm deliberately omitting the 40 piece challenge this year. I think it's brilliant but I want to actively spend more time engaging with previously learned pieces this year.

My number 1 goal is to get glasses so I can read the music. How aggravating it is to be on a roll and suddenly you can't read the music because it is out of vision with the glasses you are wearing. Not sure if Dollar Store glasses work, but I'm going to find out. I will buy about 3 - 5 different strengths and hopefully one of the works!!!
Always working to improve "Chopsticks". I'll never give up on it.
