If all goes well tonight, I will have sold my trusty CP5.

I'm now in the process of deciding what to buy and pretty much have two choices, the RD800 and the Kawai MP11.

Unless I'm mistaken, the prices for the RD800 have dropped in the last week or two. Can anyone else confirm that?

I was in a music store last week and the RD800 was €2199 (or €2099, I forget). I now see everyone over here selling it for €1949 and €1944. Any thoughts? Is this a typical price drop for the end of the year?

Interesting.

Could be that they're trying to clear inventory ahead of an updated model to be announced at NAMM next month.

Cheers,
James

James, anything new in the stage piano line for Kawai coming out that you can speak about?

The price here (UK)till recently was around £1799.That was hiked by the falling pound. Now its going for £1649 in PMT which equates to your 1944 euros.

Your e2199 is £1874 - never seen it that high in UK.

I have noticed over time that dealers are (particularly PMT which is my local shop) realy impossible to get a discount out of when buying Roland product but will discount other brands.
I guess its a stricture imposed by Roland.

I'm selling my RD800 at the moment (advertised on SOS readers adds) Its mint condition with a soft case for £1200.

If any forumites are interested (I'm in Oxford UK) I could be open to haggling. smile

Not gigging so going to stick with my Casio and Yammy U3.

Roland has a $200 rebate on the RD800 in the US through December 31st. Between store sales and the rebate value, I've seen it as cheap as $1560 this month. It came out about 3 years ago, and doesn't have Roland's PHA-50 action. Unless I'm mistaken it doesn't have Roland's newest piano engine either. Could be getting ready for a replacement.

$1560 is way, way less than you'd even see on eBay for used units as of a month ago. I'd say this is as clear of a sign as anything.

The MP11 plays great but is a monster to move around (same weight as the CP300). And tonally, for me at least, it doesn't appeal to me as much as the Yamaha CP4 or RD800.

Having both the CP5 & 4, I feel the CP4 is a major upgrade for live playing over the 5- with regard to the obvious portability factor, sonically sounding better live and having a more substantial action where it feels like I can dig in better. At least for an electronic keyboard. wink

The only competitor in that 38-40 lb. weight class is the Nord Piano 3. The new and improved Fatar action is pretty good ( I still prefer the CP4 & RD800) - but it's still Fatar. And Nord pianos are an acquired taste for sure. Plus it's red. sick
The Nord build quality on the case is superior to the CP4 however.

I now see at Thomann's the price for the RD800 is €1899.

My local dealer offered me that price if I acted before the end of this year. He also stated that the price would go back up to €1949 (or €1944) in January.

I'm going to see how all this plays out in January with NAMM in Anaheim.
