Hello!
My Name is Mike and I`m from Austria. I`m interested to by a Kawai Piano and I have a few questions. Would be great when you can help me.
I played Piano back in da days for a few years and nowadays - 15 years later, I make electronic music (techno and house) with a lot hardware Synths etc.
Sometimes I need also a few good piano sounds in my songs and so I decide to buy a Kawai.
I`ve found a used Kawai ES6 (good conditions) for 700 Euros. The new ES8 costs me around 1500€.

So I wanna ask you - is the sound from the newer one that better or not?
How are the other sounds? strings etc? I´m not a good player these days so the keyboard (2 or 3 points) is not so important.
Would be nice to get an answer.

Best Mike

Hello Mike,

I have an ES8 at home and I play an ES7 sometimes.

So I think that the comparison could be usefull for your question.

I find the two keyboards very different.
The keys are different, better on the ES8 (more realistic).
The piano sounds are much more different, they are better pianos sound with the ES8, far better IMHO.

The ES6 might be OK to whet your renewed interest. But if you progress and interest rises quite quickly with piano so you demand more and better you will be GASing, probably quite soon, whereas the ES8 will be more satisfying or a better long term option. The difficulty is even with the ES8 any renewed interest might lead you elsewhere. The best thing is to visit a store to try the ES8, make a qualified offer for the ES6, and when you go to buy the ES6 subject to qualification decide then.

Hello Mike, welcome to the forum.

Yes, the ES8 is much better than the ES6. It features a wider variety of acoustic piano sounds with higher quality samples, more realistic reverb and effects, higher resolution processing, and far more advanced resonance modelling.

Also much better.

However, with all that being said, I would not necessarily consider a piano-focussed instrument such as the ES8 for creating techno/house music. You may find more suitable (i.e. elctronic/dance-oriented) piano sounds in something like a Korg Krome/Kross or even the Module iOS app.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James
