I own a Grotrian Steinweg Cabinet. I look for Grotrian tubes on youtube, especially for music recordings - not commercials, I can not find many tubes! And the tubes of Grotrian usually have dry, unattractive sound!

Then I look for Bluthner tubes. Oh-la-la, tons of tubes... I feel that, Bluthner, only behind Steinway, has more tubes on youtube than any other 1st tier.

Why?

It might be related to the fact that Bluthner sells more pianos than Grotrian-Steinweg, thus it is better-known.

I've been looking for Model 2 clips without much luck. There are some but not a lot.

For example, Bösendorfer has only produced around 51,000 pianos since going into business in 1828 and averages around 300 per year; whereas Steinway produces 3,400 per year according to Wikipedia. This can make a difference in how many tubes by manufacturer there are.

If so, then Yamaha grand would have more tubes, but it's not the case, or if it was the case then it does not attract same (my) attention as Bluthner.

I doubt that Bluthner inspires more people to express and post on youtube. why? does it is more expressive, inspirational than Grotrian, Sauter, Bechstein ...? I don't know!

Luckily, there is a thread of Bluthner owner group currently posted in the forum, could you please give an insight explanation: what made you choose the Bluthner? After owning it, what is your feeling when you play other brands?

While I don't own a Bluthner I think know the reason. There just aren't many of them. The Bluthner is a high end instrument with a very unique sound. I could say the same for Bosendorfer. If those unique sounds appeal to you you go with it. I also think the reason you don't see many of these instruments in concert is because of their low production numbers. They are just not that available. I did meet Christian Bluthner at Ori's event at Allegro a few years back. I had a long conversation with him. He was a very interesting guy and told me about the many hours of detailing that goes into the Bluthner, much of that work is for cosmetics. This friendly discussion came after I told him I am a Steinway owner. We also discussed the difference between the NY and Hamburg Steinway.
