What do you guys think of this Yamaha C7 at Rick Jones? It's definitely in a class of its own compared to its neighbors: C3's and C5 and Kawai equivalents. But it's at $26k.

I did also play a pretty nice C3 which is only half the price. Just arrived into the shop so it's not listed online yet, but its tone is the most similar to this C7 compared to a lot of other pianos at the showroom.

It's hard to give any input without the age/condition of either piano.

Playing since age 21 (September 2010) and loving it more every day.

for $26k. you should have your pick from quite a few very nice grand pianos, especially used instruments. if you are comfortable with that budget why not find out what your options might be. are you happy with your kawai stage piano ? if you are, see what's around in kawai's over six feet, for that matter there are other makers with very good instruments in that size range. did you read mr.kassman's recent comments about the brodmann grand that is modeled after the steinway A, for example. if most of your work is in rock, pop, and the like, yamaha could be the best suited for your ear and preferences, but why not play and compare for yourself.

Condition is like perfect (it will have been regulated, voiced and otherwise refurbished at the dealer). Piano is 1980. Not sure how much someone can judge from a recording, but I'm just asking about the sound of that piano.

The budget is a reach to get to the C7, so I was considering a C3. At Rick Jones there's a decent one for $14k. I could probably also find one from CL for half the price if I kept looking. And of course, I'm traveling around my local area to check out pianos too. About to visit 3 pianos in the Fairfax, VA area tomorrow (M&H BB 7', Kawai concert grand, and another Kawai, all 1980s range)

For $26k I would have expected it to be made in the mid to late 90's. For 1980, I'd expect to may somewhere in the teens. It's probably a very nice piano, but it's quite overpriced in my opinion.

Yep, I think in general that used pianos will be almost double the price at a dealer compared to a private seller. I'm considering both options.

It's a damn shame I missed out on this one in my local area which sold just a few months ago: https://www.pianomart.com/buy-a-piano/view?id=26819

representative examples of mason&hamlin BB's are often relative bargains compared with other pianos in their class. the technician who recently spent about five hours with our 1919 BB, who works extensively with steinways of all ages, explained that some design features like the apertures in the plate and how the soundboard is attached, are more similar to european grands than steinways. they're among the heaviest, if not at the top weight, of seven foot grands.
