Just realised that this is probably a better place to post member recordings than the other member recordings thread.. So this is technically my second post. Would like to share a recording of Chopin's Étude Op.10 No.1 that I recorded a few evenings ago at the RNCM in Manchester. Hope you enjoy it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaggAt6tTGM

Really, really great, Luke. You bring a tremendous amount of sensitivity to this monster of a piece.
One interpretive thought: I would make much more out of m.42-44, and m.45-48. This is, for me, "the event" of the piece, the moment of greatest passion, and drawing our attention to the LH of m.42-44 is needed to make it an event. With this in place, the piece has overall shape for me; without it, it meanders.
Great job!

This is an outstanding and (for one who would love to be able to play it) and enviable performance!
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your thoughts, I agree, it is something that I have practiced but did not manifest whilst I was recording. As you rightfully say this is a great climax of the piece and it doesn't come through as such. Hopefully, I will try and get a recording of a live performance in the near future, where I tend to be considerably more focused. In recording sessions my mind wanders occasionally due to the slightly artifical atmosphere, even so its good experience and worth doing so as to review what I'm doing and receive feedback from aficionados such as yourself.

Thank you for your kind words, I'm happy that you have enjoyed my playing of this Etude. If you would like to hear more recordings in the future, please subscribe to my channel on Youtube and I'll duly upload more in future. I've been a bit reluctant in the past due to a kind of slightly absurd perfectionism, but with a bit of encouragement from friends and my girlfriend I take the leap now and then, I think it's fruitful to post recordings of one's own playing not least so that other people might enjoy your playing and also to get feedback both positive and negative to improve, learn and think differently.

Nice work - this is one of my favorite etudes that Chopin wrote. I think you play more right notes in this recording than I ever managed to. I remember struggling a lot with the arpeggios in measures 30 (C half diminished descending) through 36 (A major) - you make these look pretty easy.
I think you could bring more attention to a few of the chromatic melody notes which change from beats 3 to 4 - though honestly this could just be due to the acoustics in the hall. Specifically, I think: - The D# could be louder in measure 8. - The B could be louder in measure 38. - The A could be louder in measure 40.
Very nice work!

Nice job!!! Your arpeggios are clean and your left hand is lyrical. The only thing I would want you to do is the shape the melodies carried by your finger 5 on the right hand. There are some really beautiful suspensions and resolutions on that top line but I'm not really hearing them.
Really nice job though.
