Bit of a rival, maybe? And the price is right . . . .

Looks like the same controls, display, buttons and I assume same keyboard as the HP-60x and LX series pianos. Bigger speakers than the LX17 in a baby grand style cabinet...

It looks like the RG-3F, but the legs are straight and no casters (wheels). I assume the speaker system is multi-channel rather than stereo, but the speaker layout (from what I can see) seems very similar to the RG-3F.

No. Smaller speakers.

Curious instrument. The speaker system on paper isn't as good as an LX17. It is a less powerful 4 channel system, more like the HP605 in a baby grand piano format, at LX17 prices.£4129 in the UK. http://www.gear4music.com/Keyboards-and-Pianos/Roland-GP607-Digital-Grand-Piano-Polished-Ebony/1PB5

The proof will be in the playing but on paper the LX17 still looks like it offers better VFM if you don't need or want the GP format.

That link's missing some stats, it's a 4.1 channel system. It's 20W 2x5W & 2x20W according to Roland's site.

Still less overall total power but it's definitely a step up from the hp605.

Move the guts of an LX-17 into a Avant Grand-style cabinet, and use 8" woofers instead of the LX-17's 10" woofers ?????

I'm sure Roland thought about this, but I can't imagine what thinking would lead you to do that.

But nobody except the members of this forum are going to care.<g>

Never let the specs fool you.

The GP607 is an absolutely awesome Digital Grand piano. You'll see when you get an opportunity to try it in your Roland showroom.

It uses the most advanced sound generator available in a hardware piano today in concert with a very fine hybrid digital Piano action.

The speaker system does a fantastic job of reproducing the modelled sound. It fills the room with Music.

Is the sound generator the same as the existing Lx-7/Lx-17 instruments?
Is the headphone sound identical?

Then it is "old" piano sound system and modeling with difrence only in look and cabinet no? I've read specs and I don't see any noticable diffrence.

It is the new SuperNatural Piano Modelling sound engine. With the new PHA-50 Hybrid Piano Action.

There's nothing old about it.

It seems like Roland is not discontinuing the RG-3F. I wonder if they will update this instrument soon, and keep it around as the more refined (aesthetically), and expensive option over the cheaper-looking GP607.

If they don't update this instrument, they might as well retire it, because it would make no sense for anyone to pay the current asking price; considering the fact that this piano is technologically ancient in comparison to the GP607; which is, incidentally, priced like the LX-17. (RG-3F sells for over $8,000).

So, what's it gonna be, Roland?

Cant speak for them.

But please give us some time and have some patience.

It's now 96 hours after the biggest launch in the history of the Company. There are a lot of moving parts in motion right now.

Jay

There is difference between old and "old"...
Anyway is there something different about it except cabinet?
