Simone Dinnerstein's thoughts on Casio GP-500 vs. Avantgrand

In March 2013 concert pianist Simone Dinnerstein auditioned a number of high-end digital pianos, and declared that the Yamaha AvantGrand N2 was the closest in touch and tone to an acoustic grand piano. This shopping spree was covered by the Wall Street Journal and other media outlets.

In September 2015 Ms. Dinnerstein gave a performance (Bach & Schubert, I believe) on the new Casio Celviano GP-500 at the launch of that new digital piano.

Has anybody asked Ms. Dinnerstein how the new Casio hybrid piano compares to the Avantgrand, and which one she preferred?

Who knows....but she'll probably prefer the piano made by whoever's payroll she is on. Most recently Casio judging by your information that she performed at the GP-500's launch. Cynical old me....

I'm guessing it would be the Yamaha N2. Its certainly my favourite digital piano with the most realistic touch and feel.

I played both in store last month. GP500 can competed with CS11 but not with really real Avant Grand keyboard.

That rather backs up essbrace's suspicion. Let's hope we're wrong. I like it when cynics get the wind taken out of their sails, even if I am one.

Dinnerstein practiced on an N2 for a month in Paris earlier this year. She was there performing with the Paris Ballet in Jerome Robbins's production of the Goldberg Variations. She uploaded several videos of her practice sessions to Facebook. See, e.g.,
