I am in the market for a Kawai piano (I finally honed in on what I truly want, and Kawai just seems to be the best bet for my price range.)

I found someone who is selling their Kawai CX-5H manufactured in 1996, and I read that it isn't that great of a Kawai piano. My question is, she hasn't had any luck selling it at $1800 and may be willing to go down in price quite a bit, so if I bought the Kawai for $1500 would it be a good buy at all? What would you say the piano is worth? It also has a rather large chip in the front just below the keys. I don't think it effects the sound, but does it?

What other Kawai models would be good to consider between the $1,000 to $2,000 range? What models should I stay away from? Thank you all for your help! This has been the BEST website for input!

The designations of Kawai vertical pianos is so confusing that even their own people can have trouble keeping them straight, so trying to pin them down by model is a difficult task.

The CX-5H was a low cost, entry level piano that was built very lightly. It has surprisingly good, strong tone, and the action is the equivalent of other Kawai uprights of that time. If the piano checks out with a technician it should be fine.

With used pianos being so numerous today, I would offer them a lower price and see if they will take it.
