This idea has been suggested before, but it hasn't come to fruition. Philip In China, now in Bulgaria, had suggested to me that we have a Blüthner owners group, hosted outside PianoWorld (because we don't want to eat all your bandwidth). Philip in China/Bulgaria is the proud owner of a 9' Blüthner concert grand (lucky b....oy!).

David_G whom I met in Dundee last week, has lots of information on different types of historic Blüthner pianos which would be of interest to some of us here, and of course he owns an old-style 85 key 180cm Blüthner that I think he told me dates from the 1880s.

I have my two style 8s, and Beemer has just taken delivery of a lovely new Model A upright.

The group could host information on different types of Blüthner through the years, from the earliest grand pianos to the latest. I know there have been some interesting pianos made, for instance Petronel Malan owns a Model 2 that was made in the last 20 years but for some reason doesn't have aliquot scaling. There is at least one person who owns a left-handed model, and it would be interesting to gather information on just exactly what happened during those DDR years.

Dealers, restorers, technicians, would be welcome in my opinion....

Anyone on board? should we make this happen for after summer?

I sign in right now, whatever this project turns into. As a wannabe-someday-let's hope-owner and enthusiast.

Rather tham just a thread, this could as well become a subforum section with more than one archive.

Bit this is up to the creators and Pianoworld.

Dedicated subsections for other brands might be interesting as well.

I just joined the club and got myself a 1950 Blüthner baby grand. The insides are in original condition, the outsides have been restored. Has a lovely singing tone and is light in touch, so it's just the kind of piano I was looking for.

Here are a few. It seems to be impossible to capture the real deep reddish walnut colour with my camera, it looks very different in real life than on these photos.

It seems to require a Google account... Don't have one anymore and don't want to get one frown

I'd figured google groups was the easiest way to do it. Should I try it on a forum builder?

I find the present google things very messy and annoying to use...I found at least one account still valid and got a new password, but I could not find my gmail address on the settings page... I have had so many over the years that I have no idea what I might have used for this one...and it keeps asking for my mobile number, which I have no intention of giving...
Edit: Finally I ended up with 3 different Google accounts, a new one in addition to 2 older ones...sigh...

But anyway, I am now able to sign in to the group smile

I realise now i got this wrong, thinking it would have been opened here on Pianoworld. Isn't that possible? Wouldn't it be interesting to have different brand subforums?

By the way, i applied to the google group.

I like the idea, although I do not own a Bluthner, and instead would want to start a Chickering sub-forum. Having these forums would allow people to share information more easily and avoid having to use the site's search engine to find information on specific brands. (By the way, why is there a 4-year limitation on the range of years within which we can search? Is this a limitation of the software engine used to build the site? Most inconvenient, since it requires multiple searches.)

On the other hand, I can see two problems with such sub-forums:

1. There would be many of them, since there are many brands. Eventually, there would be be twenty or so sub-forums.
2. Users would face a choice whenever posting--should one post in the general tech forum or the specialized forum? Some questions asked about, say, the string scale of a given brand might be answered just as well by generalists as by people who only knew one brand of instrument. We could not expect everyone to read every sub-forum, so by specializing we would limit the number of people who would read and respond to our posts.

Yet the idea has great appeal, simply because it would allow a faster sharing of information among people who do know one instrument well or are trying to learn more about a given type of piano. Is there a way to overcome the problems?

I think the idea is to run it totally separately from PW. I am already a member of a similar group for Bechstein.

Well, there was mention of it being hosted here. What do the PianoWorld administrators think? I dislike the idea of having to go to a separate Google Group (although I see that this one has already been started). Seems as though each group would be even more isolated. People who regularly read the Tech forum here, but don't own a Bluthner, may never read the site, and thus would not contribute, even though they may have worked on Bluthners several times.

You think that people not knowing anything about a subject would stand in their way of posting to an internet forum?
