I wish I had been there; sounds like a great celebration! I am glad to read that the book is getting favourable reviews - well, I guess most of those reviews are only "favorable," as they are predominantly US reviews.

wow! i love the first picture with penny, niles, and everyone laughing. looks like every bit the great party that it was.

frank, do you think it's too late to ask them to correct my name's spelling in the headline? they got it right in the body of the article. strange.

it will be interesting to see what happens to pianoworld's traffic after this comes out! laugh

Yes, it was a great party, and the article is wonderful. By the way, I exchanged a few emails with Swati, she wants to take lessons again now :-) I told her she has perfect fingers for playing (she does).

I'm sure if you call her they will correct the spelling (I have her number if you need it).

My sister said if she can't find the paper in her area (Pompano Beach, FL), she may have to fly to CA to pick some up :-)

here's another article--a review in the missoula independent, and i think it's the best review i've received yet:

"The reason for [my] sudden renewal of interest in music is Perri Knize’s new book, Grand Obsession. And I think the Missoula author and I might agree that’s the highest compliment I could pay to her work."

Wow! the highest compliment indeed. pique is a muse!

Now who the heck could be giving a thread like this WHICH ONLY SUPPORTS PIANO LOVERS AND PLAYERS and the PIANO BUSINESS a low ***?

Trying to prove a point? Or have you something against promoting pianos?

Shame on you. Have something to say? Then post it on the thread.

My guess is it's either someone who doesn't like the thread rating system, to which I say..
It's like a tv program, don't like it, don't look at it.

Or, it's someone who doesn't like the fact that I'm allowing Grand Obsession so much free press on PW, to which I say...

Have you read the book?

When I read it I realized it will entice a lot of people to investigate playing the piano.

It also mentions PW and the Piano Forums throughout, which will bring us more new members.

After I'd read it, I contacted Perri and her publisher and told them I'd like to help promote the book. I believe the book will be good for the piano industry (manufacturers, dealers, teachers, tuners, etc.) and for the Piano Forums.

It's true I ask professionals in the industry to refrain from advertising on the forums, asking them instead to consider paying for advertising on PW.

In this case, the exposure Grand Obsession will provide for the piano industry and for PW by getting people excited about playing the piano more than offsets any fees I would have charged.

Perri is not in competition with anyone. She isn't selling pianos or service or lessons. I believe if anything, she is doing the piano business a wonderful service.

In fact, a number of dealers have expressed an interest in carrying the book in their showrooms, either to sell, or to give away.

Besides, I really like the book:-)

Hi all

I just got back with the L.A. Times Sunday edition. It looks great. The article is on page F6 and it takes up the entire page. There is a huge photograph of Jeff Bauer playing the piano and everyone gathered around. I'm just really glad my bald spot didn't make the print edition.

I don't know if this has been announced yet, but the Book Review section says that the the Times will be reviewing "Grand Obsession" during the week, so I guess that's something else to watch out for.

I can't seem to put the book down. It's so well written and a compelling story too. There has to be an award somewhere in this book's future. Cheers to Perri.

Congratulations Pique! I look forward to reading your book, as I too had an obsessional journey that ended happily with a Mason-Hamlin, albeit upright. Looks like a fun party and sorry I decided not to drive down from Santa Barbara for it! Good luck with book reviews.
