Hi guys!

I have a Kawai CN24, which has two MIDI-lines: 1 OUT and 1 IN. I also got a cable "MIDI => USB" so I can connect my Kawai to my computer...

I installed the software "Anvil Studio", which recognize my USB-Midi.

Well my problem is the magic doesn´t work, I´m not able to record from my Kawai, there is no sound coming to my computer. I read the manual from my Kawai and I think I do everything ok!

Has someone a Kawai CN24 and can tell me how does it work?

I mean, I´m just a little person who wants to record the piezes and notes from my piano in my computer frown

Thanks!

About "there is no sound coming to my computer."... It is normal if your output is the MIDI port : the sound should come from the piano. Note that a MIDI link does only transfer which keys are pressed and how hard they are striked. No sound !

You may select the Windows synthesizer (Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth) as an output... But the sound will be different and poorer. You can buy a virtual piano, the sound will have an higher quality but will still be different from your Kawai.

But I´m testing the MIDI connection (with the tester from Anvil Studio) and in the left side (Listening for MIDI Input from: USB) i don´t see any reaction. When I press a key in my Kawai Anvil doesn´t recognize anything.

And my MIDI/USB connector has 3 leds, one is the "power", another one is the input and another the output. When I send something to my piano I can see one led on, but if I press keys in my piano i don´t see anything in the leds...

I think I´m doing something wrong but I don´t know what... I just want to use the MIDI to save the notes in a file, so I can compose quickly... maybe it´s not a good idea...

So no way (IN and OUT) does work.

You should perhaps exchange the MIDI plugs of your piano. Some USB/MIDI has "to IN" and "to OUT" labelled plugs (to be used respectively with IN and OUT sockets of the piano). Some others have "IN" and "OUT" plugs... and "IN" should go to the OUT socket, the "OUT" in the IN socket.

balian, both the USB cable and USB-to-MIDI adaptor should work, although the latter may need an additional driver to be installed on your computer, depending on the manufacturer.

However, I would stick with the USB cable, as this is a very simple way to send/receive MIDI data to your computer. Once connected, your computer should have detected the Kawai USB-MIDI device and installed the drivers correctly. Sometimes MIDI software selects this device automatically for input/output, on other occasions it may be necessary to select the device in the application's I/O settings. The Anvil website/user guide should be able to explain this procedure.

Kind regards,
James

I don't think it is a driver problem : the MIDI-USB adaptor is seen and emitted MIDI events are well sent to the adaptor (led blinking).

In which case, it's probably best for balian to contact Kawai America for technical assistance.

Kind regards,
James

Sounds to me like your MIDI IN/OUT leads are the wrong way around and need swapping. You could also try downloading the free demo version of Pianoteq and see if that works with your MIDI output.

+1. A good, simple, "end-to-end" test.

I am not sure Pianoteq will help : the Anvil Studio MIDI test diagnostics both way (IN and OUT), Pianoteq only Inputs.
