Hi everyone. I'm new here and wanted to show a Zimmermann piano i just bought. I wonder if you can tell me something about it since there is no serial number on the board nor anywhere. I just found a four digit number which could tell the year but i'm not sure. Greets.

Hi, and welcome to Piano World!

I'm not the expert here, but there are some very good, world renown, piano experts here on PW.

With that said, I think the Zimmerman is a Russian/old East German (before the wall came down) brand piano. I've seen a few myself in piano shops. I don't think they are known for high quality, per-se, but that doesn't mean it is not a nice enough piano to meet your needs.

For example, the hammer line is a bit sloppy in the pics, as compared to a similar age Kawai or Yamaha upright. But, again, it may sound nice and play well.

How do you like it? That's what counts! smile

Zimmermann was founded in 1895 (long before the wall was built). It was the largest factory in Europe with 1.600 workers. Good quality. After WW II they continued production in East Germany, but then the quality was not so good.

The piano from the photos above seems to be an old one (before WW II), but not a Zimmermann. The brand logo does not fit to the production years and seems to be sticked on by someone. Furthermore there is no casted brand logo in the frame. A logo that can not be removed. Obviously this piano is a cheap piano in a lousy condition with a faked fallboard name.

It's no Russian piano. I would suggest that it's made in territory East German, Leipzig before 2 World War

Thanks for the clarification on that, Max (and Gregor). I do know a little about history (love it too, by-the-way) but for some reason I have a tendency to equate the old Soviet Union with Russia and the old East Germany to Russia. smile

Best regards,

Rick
