Hello!

Do you have any suggestions of a piano concerto type piece with just one movement?

The ideas I have so far are:
Schumann: Konzertstück op. 92 - Introduzione ed Allegro appassionato
Felix Mendelssohn - Capriccio brillant, Op. 22

Thank you!

Olivier Messiaen: Réveil des Oiseaux

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgNeH9_8l0w

In this recording, the orchestra birds don't enter until 2:25. The whole thing builds to the glorious moment when the sun rises, 2/3 of the way through.

One of my all time favourites. Display pianism at its best. Full of octaves, sixths and awkward jumps with a lovely melody to hold it all together.

I have a feeling the Schulz-Evler Rhapsody will be pretty
stunning. Released next month on Hyperion.

Concertingly,

Thal

I'm inclined to agree with Thal

Here's a curiosity grin:

Much better than the Warsaw Concerto.......

This is a better-played version by a well-known pianist:

I can always count on you to introduce nonstandard repertoire to me. I enjoy learning about composers and pieces that are new to me. Thank you very much for your input.

Jörg Widmann "Trauermarsch" for Piano and Orchestra. I'm hearing Bronfman play it with the San Francisco Symphony On June 25th.

Talk about encyclopedic knowledge! wow I have purchased several CDs on his recommendation.

And as I type this, my local classical station just started the... yep... Tchaikovsky. (With Lang Lang no less to add insult to injury... just kidding...)

It seems not played as much as it once was, but still turns up.

Here's another one movement piece by Franck that I've never seen programmed at all, but it's got some interest, I think.

There's a lovely, if very introverted and meditative, Ballade for piano and orchestra by Koechlin.

Another attractive Ballade, this by Tailleferre.

The Faure Ballade also exists in a piano and orchestra version.
