Good for text. The ones Ive tried, AVS and Filmora are sooo long winded. . .it would be good to be able to layer the video/ visual aspects. . All suggestions are welcome!

Dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux + Kdenlive. If you don't like dual-boot then run Linux from a USB flash drive. Just remember to make it persistent so you only have to install Kdenlive once.

I use wondershare video editor. It's basic but it works, getting text overlays/subtitles whatever is easy.

I tried that, it wasnt bad and did most o what I wanted. It had a watermark that destroyed all the work 1 put in! But its better than AVS imo and cheaper too. . .so I might buy. Laxt o the big spenders, thats me. . .

I will hae a look at Pinacle too.

Peter, if you're willing to dish out some doe, I recommend Cyberlink PowerDirector. It is very intuitive, and easy to get around, for most tasks, and very versatile.

You may also want to take a look at OpenShot. It is now available for Windows. I didn't like the earlier version, 1.4.something, but now 2.0 is out, and there may have been some improvements made. Totally free, no watermarks whatsoever, unless you choose to insert them yourself.

I like PowerDirector too. Uploads directly to YT. The software is straight forward.

I used Windows Movie Maker for my last vid. It's very easy to use and it's free! Lots of tutorials on YT for it.
