Hello!

Lately I've been listening to lots of repertory like the below:

Albeniz - Asturias (Leyenda)
Tarrega - Recuerdos de la Alhambra
Lecuona - La Malaguena
Piazzolla - Libertango
Nazareth - Brejeiro
Chabrier - Habanera

I would like to listen to more of this stuff. I've tried some music from Granados, Ginastera, De Falla, but haven't appreciated it as much (but maybe I should give it another try).

Does anybody here have any suggestions for latin piano pieces like the above?

Thanks in advance.

There is a vast repertoire out there. Many of these are hard to find outside of South America.

here are some of my favorites.

Villa-Lobos :

Ernesto Halffter :

Oscar Espla :

Nepomuceno :

Francisco Mignone :

Are you familiar with Domenico Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas ? These are a treat ! Wonderful stuff ! They are exhilarating to play and to listen. Do a search in the forum, they have been mentionned countless times.

I'll be back with more.

Look into the music of Wim Statius Muller.

There is some great music by the bossa nova composers of Brazil: Gilberto, Jobim, Castro-Neves, etc.

Also Darius Milhaud's Saudades do Brasil, and some of the music of Gottschalk, including the two symphonies.

I heard Leyenda performed at New Orleans Jazz Fest recently. Loved it. Am toying with it a little, and might get serious. Except for achieving the speed needed to play this piece it is really not hard at all. The right speed is needed to make it sound as if it is played on guitar. Loving the sounds of the piece!

Hi, Kalos Piano! After reviewing the suggestions, nobody has yet mentioned Joaquin Turina, who wrote a substantial body of solo piano pieces, some of which are intermediate in level of difficulty. Also, no one has yet mentioned Federico Mompou, who, like Turina, has a substantial body of solo piano compositions to draw upon.

Kalos, check out the music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk. Has a very strong Latin influence. He lived in Havana, Cuba for a while. Some of the music he composed was based on rhythms he heard coming from Congo Square, as he was growing up in New Orleans.
