From a Facebook post of mine ...

So true.
I can't imagine my life without being able to create music.

I will frequently sit and doodle at the piano, and Kathy will say ... "That was really pretty, what was it?"
And I reply that I don't know, it just came out that way, and now it's gone.
But then I start playing again, always chasing that elusive combination of notes that make someone smile.

Thank you for sharing about your relationship with music.
If you put on a recorder when you play, those moments you like won't be gone. You could share them here.

Keith Jarrett once erroneously said improvised music "should go as quickly as it comes" (Wikipedia: the Koeln Concert). Definitely he doesn't believe that, because he's released lots of improvised music and generated a lot of cash from it. (Lots of musicians are not underpaid!)
