I love these threads! There have been some real gems on my local Craigslist. One was for a very beat up old upright that the seller would probably need to pay to have taken to the dump. He was asking $6700 for it.

Then there's this one, which has been on CL for at least a year, but I think it's closer to two years. In that time, he hasn't come down in his price at all:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/msg/5556159950.html

Then there's this one, which I just find interesting. I know nothing about this piano maker, he probably didn't last long, but the piano was apparently build as a prototype and its serial number is 2:
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/msg/5553163160.html

Edited: Not to get too off topic, but I was so curious about the piano in my last link that I did a little googling. Apparently, this maker is still producing pianos out of SLC, Utah. I had no idea there was another American piano maker.

I put links because I can't copy and past the pics.

That first piano looks like somebody added a bottle opener to the side. Could be handy.

I've actually seen a couple of those in this area. Very interesting that they are still in business, I had no idea!

There was a guy out here who had a Knabe concert grand on Craig's for a couple years. It was a core worth maybe $3K max to a really motivated buyer. He wouldn't budge from $8K, because some tuner once told him it was worth $40K - 60K. That misinformation was really a disservice to him and to the potential buyers.

True. But why not post a similar thread here? Some PW members do not visit the technician's forum. And, parallel threads are posted on the different forums frequently.

Just my .02.

Agreed, that thread was dying anyway!
I didn't mean to imply there shouldn't be a thread here. I did mean to imply that the examples on the other thread were far more ridiculous and funny than the ones so far on this thread. Most of the ones poster so far look positively reasonable compared to the ones on the other thread so maybe someone can post the link on this thread.

Maybe for the next recession you could post "Free magic course with purchase of any grand"(Steve is a magician among other things).

I did find that thread, the only issue is that almost all the posts were so old that none of the links worked anymore. So it's impossible to tell how funny they were! smile

Little bit off topic: I was scrolling down the posts above on my phone, and my tired eyes saw "mabraman" and for a split second thought they saw "Markarian." Does anyone know where he's been lately?

I recall a Craigslist ad from 15 years ago. It went something like this.

Piano for sale. Brand XXX model YYY year ZZZ. I bought it last year hoping the kids would become interested. Kids never caught on. If you buy the piano today, I will throw in the kids for free.

I am deeply shocked by this post. I cannot believe that a mother could give away her daughters. I would never have dreamed of giving away my daughters. Take my advice: don't give away your children and live a life of bitter regret. Sell them instead.

This did not occur on Craigslist, but I thought it was a bit hilarious (and a bit ridiculous too); although it does involve parents and children.

My sister-in-law is a retired school teacher who taught 2nd grade most of her teaching career. She told me once that, back when they were allowed to have corporal punishment (paddling) in public schools, the parents had to sign a document giving the principal or school authorities permission to paddle their child for disciplinary purposes, if deemed necessary.

She said she had a little boy in her class that had bad behavior problems and was constantly disrupting the class. So, one day she took the little boy to the principal's office to be disciplined for misbehaving. Due to numerous trips to the principal's office, the next step was a paddling or expulsion. They checked to see if they had the proper document signed by the parents, which they did not.

So, (to make a long story short smile ) they called the little boy's mother at work and told her about the situation and asked if they had her permission to paddle the child. The mother of the child emphatically said NO, they could not paddle her child. The principal then told the mother that due to the extent and severity of child's misbehavior, he could not remain at school and she (the mother) would have to come immediately and pick him up from school.

After a few moments of silence over the phone, the mother said, "go ahead and paddle him". smile

Moral of the story? I'm not quite sure. grin

Not so funny.. But kinda sad.. My local craigslist section for pianos is flooded with ads from a particular mover. Very hard to sift through the ads (very bad for both sellers and buyers)..

But yeah.. I've seen some pretty ridiculous ads on CL..

The Atlanta Craigslist is pretty much dominated by one particular used piano dealer with his various, and numerous piano ads. I've mentioned it so many times here I'm kind of tired of talking about it. But whenever I look at the used piano ads on the Atlanta Craigslist, the guys ads are everywhere.

Not sure if this one is his, but it is so bizarre it's scary. Late model Yamaha grand for $450

Of course, there is no contact info... an interest party would need to send them a note through CL.

This one's not funny or hilarious... it's ridiculous and absurd; possibly a prank or scam. I guess ridiculous and absurd can be hilarious. smile

Looks like there's an email address there where it's supposed to say make/manufacturer. I don't know if that makes it any more legit.

Yes, I noticed that too... hence, my comments about a prank or a scam.

Could be bait for an inquiry from a prospect. The price is so low, I don't even think scammers would be so bold; they list their prices just low enough to appear legit. smile
