How do I go about finding the age of a piano, or more about the company that made it? (In this case, Raudenbush & Sons Piano Company)

Thank you!

This is a new one for me - a piano that was built in Minnesota - my home state. Be sure to check the insides for signs of spilled hotdish.... laugh

From the Piano Atlas:

"Raudenbush & Sons, est. 1905 at University and Pillsbury St. , St. Paul, MN. Also Wesley Pianos and Garland."

Serial numbers are listed for years 1905-1935, a pretty good run. Post the serial number of yours and I will look up the year it was built for you.

Enjoy!

Yaahh, suuurre, youbetcha, the Raudenbush was made in St. Paul. Everyone thought they were a "heckuva" good piano.

My aunt had one in her basement. I can't tell you the quality since it hadn't been tuned in decades!!! Raudenbush pianos were a popular item in the St. Paul newspaper classified ads years ago--much like Steger in the south region of Chicago.

Maybe you can find a dealer or tech in St. Paul who can give you information beyond the age of the piano.

I found a Raudenbush in our church advertizement. It is beautifull, with only 6 broken hammers. The previous owner had only tuned it 2 or 3 times in the last 15+ years. I'm hopeing that it's because it has rock solid tuning stability, not that the owner was negligent. The ser. no is 18213 It appears to have been first tuned Sept 7th, 1914. "written in pencil" on what I think is the sound-board.

It has 6 broken hammers, and you are hoping that the owner was not negligent?

I think the piano is at least 93 years old. Perhaps I jumped to conclusion... 6 hammers that are not operational. One is broken. 4 are flats/black keys and two white. I'm a beginner, so please bear with me.
