I'm still decided on what to play. Last year we had the luxury of playing more than one so I had several shorter pieces.
How about you?

I think we will be able to play more than one piece this year too.

We will just make sure we keep rotating so that everyone gets a chance to play more if they want to

On the 21st of this month I am going to the hotel to meet with the manager. We have spoken on the phone and exchanged emails, but we have never met.

I want to refresh my memory on the room, get more details about the set up and find out about when he tunes the piano.

Soon we'll be looking at the menu.

Any food allergies or intolerances?

@WiseBuff: I think it's easy to guess what kind of music I will play wink However there may be some surprises! Nice to know that we can play more than once thumb

@casinitaly: Go ahead. No allergies at all!
btw, can you do an update of the members list attending the party?

I'm vegan and chances are I'll be the only one but it's OK if I break the rules for a day or two...

I'm (or was) allergic to milk so I guess dairy is a no-no for me, even though it's been a long time since I had my last allergic rash.
Other than that I have no other allergies or they're very mild.

Thanks for starting to get back to me on the food allergies /special diets. Mark - I don't think it will be a problem - this is Milan, there are bound to be a number of rice dishes.

At this point, I have to say, I'm sorry but we can not add any more pianists. Even if the hopefuls do not attend, we have to draw the line.

Food allergies, none. But Kathy doesn't react well to too much garlic, and she doesn't eat fish.
I've been advised to be careful of foods high in vitamin k.

On a different subject, I presume we should bring adapters for our 120v a.c. and 12v dc electronics?

Garlic isn't used as much in the north here, as it is in the south, fish can be avoided, the vit K is mostly in leafy greens if I remember correctly. I will check and help you out on the names of those in Italian.

Yes, you will need adaptors, not just for power but also for the shape of the plugs.

Phones and computers generally have power converters built in, but check your devices to be sure.

I am happy to say that one of or maybes is now confirmed.
Our surprise... Piano Girl RMG from Germany will be with us! She has kindly offer to do a set for us at some point over the weekend.

At this point, I have to say, I'm sorry but we can not add any more pianists. Even if the hopefuls do not attend, we have to draw the line.

I count 12 pianists... who else plays?

Even if my friend comes, we will play a duet so that makes only 1 pianist out of the 2 of us grin

And as for food, we eat anything on earth that's even remotely edible laugh

Ladyford isn't a pianist, but she does have a lovely singing voice.
Be sure to ask her to do her "special" version of Memory from Cars 😊

Memory, from Cars....? Hmm I didn't know Pixar did musicals ! ( smile )

I am sure we'd love to hear ladyford singing!

Here is my out line for the weekend....

Friday evening, a good number of folks will be in town.
We'll meet at the hotel around 7pm for an aperitif, a bit of piano and chit chat, and then head out to dinner.
There will be NO cost for the apertif.

My idea is to organize a meal at a restaurant nearby where one of my students works. They specialize in traditional foods based on seasonal products.

Saturday we will meet at the hotel around 12/12.30 and enjoy our buffet lunch and the music can start whenever we are inclined! We can play as long as we like.
Cost: 45 euros per person.

Now, here is the surprise, which I think you will like....

Around 6.30 /7pm we can have a bit of a pause, to give the hotel time to set up..... For dinner! They will set up little tables and we'll have a sit down dinner and MORE PIANO - as long as we like.

The cost for this is 40 euros per person.

On Sunday we can meet around 10am.

Walking tour of Milan, and I'm looking into getting access to a very interesting 17thC palazzo... no promises, but let's see.

We'll visit the Galleria, walk down some of the famous fashion streets, have a look at the Castello, and perhaps have lunch or a snack along the canal (the Naviglio). In the afternoon we'll visit the Cathedral and for those who have time, we can take a break for some refreshments.

There is a new charge for going into the church - we can go up on the roof,(by elevator) which is quite spectacular and under the church to see an ancient baptistry. There are different rates but it looks like the complete ticket is 15 euros - I will verify that.

For those who want to see the Last Supper - it isn't available on the Sunday.
If the folks who are around on Friday want to go in the late afternoon, before our aperitif, I can organize a group visit - otherwise I can help individuals book on their own.

Please note that for any aperitif we do, there are always excellent options for those who don't want to drink alcohol.

I have opted not to have alcohol at our lunch, as most people don't drink when they are going to play anyway. We'll have the aperitifs on Friday and before dinner on Saturday instead.

So... I hope you're happy with this programme - especially as it includes so much more piano time than we have had in the past.

If anyone prefers to skip any of what I have suggested, just let me know so I can start making my lists of who will be at the various meals /activities.

Can you reply copying and pasting the following and saying yes/no and how many people?

Last Supper Friday
Dinner Friday:
Buffet Lunch Saturday
Dinner Saturday
Lunch Sunday
Tour of the Cathedral Sunday

cheers,
C

Cheryl, you have put together a great program!
From Torino I can reach Milan in 1hour with the fast train, so there is no need to book a hotel.
I (maybe we) will participate only at the party on Saturday. I'm still unsure regarding the Saturday dinner.

So:

Last Supper Friday NO
Dinner Friday: NO
Buffet Lunch Saturday YES (1/2)
Dinner Saturday MAYBE (1/2)
Lunch Sunday NO
Tour of the Cathedral Sunday NO

As soon as I can be more precise I will contact you!

It sounds like an awesome program, Cheryl! Gary and I will be there for the Friday apero and dinner, both lunch and dinner on Saturday, and the walking tour on Sunday. I can't wait! This is going to be fun.

Cheryl,

Kathy says she "wants to see it all", so our answer would be yes to all.

This will be our first visit to Italy, no telling if/when we'll get to return.

Do you need the money ahead of time? If so, by when, and what is the best way to get it to you? (We can send payments in Euros via PayPal).

Best,
Frank & Kathy]
