The unthinkable has happened, almost a pint of water fell onto the keys of my CP33 on a gig...stupid I know...

Long story cut short, I brought it straight home, and a handful of keys were not sounding. After 3 days of drying out, all but two keys have come back to full operation. Into day 5 now and still those two keys are not sounding with normal pressure (although with much harder hitting I can get a stacatto sound).

Another observation, I plugged in a midi sound module and the same situation where the key strokes are not being transmitted to the sound module correctly.

I would like to get at the contacts and key switches to see if there is still some water residue but cannot find a way to remove the front panel (I got back panel lifted up and backwards ok). I managed to lift up the problem keys but was unable to lift them out (they were not budging from the front and seem stuck in place and don't want to force pulling them out). Is there someone with experience of removing the front panel and fixing those last two keys or do I need to wait much more than 5 days for full dry out?

I've been a silly bugger I know, I'm looking for constructive support or suggestions.

Yamaha has excellent service manuals with detailed disassembly instructions.

I had to pay Yamaha $15 for mine and it came on a CD.

But this one (CP33) can be had for free online HERE.

Click the Get Manual link near the bottom of that page.

If no midi note is transmitting then you know it's the sensor at the key that isn't sending note on/off (maybe not velocity either) to the mainboard. That's why the instrument isn't sounding and at the same time why no note data getting sent out.

Luckily you bought a Yamaha CP33. They have authorized service centers all over the US and parts are available. Call Yamaha support.

I thought about being a smart arse and saying put it in a giant plastic bag full of rice, but you have enough to worry about right now.

thanks everyone for your help. I totally fixed it, got the service manual thanks. Absorbed myslef in it and cleaned out the keys, bit of cold hairdryer and hoover out any fluff. Everything works now. I've learned this keyboard guts inside out now. Thank yoU!!
