Quite possibly my adobe reader is "too far ahead" in revision status - I guess that is the current euphemism for not backward compatible ?

As I recall it worked OK on Windoze Vista, which was probably running a suitably old rev of adobe reader.

Anyway, I'm not SELLING it, but I think the $12.95 upgrade is well worth the money.
Who knows ? For YOU the new look and feel might give you just the nudge you need to get restarted.

It is only 7 weeks to April 1st and I hope to get my sail board out then, once THAT game starts I will have very little time for my indoor toys.

I just noticed this thread and I have PianoforAll. So, I just checked mine out to see how it worked within my newly installed Windows 10 environment with a new install of the latest Adobe Reader.

Perfect !

Audio clips and movies all work fine.

I am not sure which version of PianoForAll I have but the files on the disc are dated April 2014.

So ... whatever that means to you.

R_B, I might even get the update, probably more enjoyable to watch the videos in HD, and with the extra inserted keyboard, not to mention the added clarity.

Dmd, if the videos are in HD, then you have the new ones.

How can I tell if they are in HD ?

They look pretty good. Is that enough to decide they are in HD ?

If you open a video in the VLC player, and choose Codec Information, from the Tools menu, you can see the resolution. HD is 1280x720, or thereabout. You can also right click a video file (in Windows) and click the tab named Information. By scrolling down you can also find the resolution there.

I would not know how to open a PianoForAll video because they are embedded in the PDF files.

dmd,
I have a very old version of pianoforall and the video files were in a separate folder, linked to within the PDF (they would play inside the PDF but you could also access them separately). I see that this is no longer true for the new version though.

Kinda/sorta... in the OLD version the LINKS are what are embedded and for what seems to be lack of backward compatibility in adobe reader those links to the actual .mov files don't work.

The NEW version of PFA has files dated 2014-04-03 and current versions of adobe reader work with those.
Arguably the videos in the new version are actually embedded in the .pdf files.

Anyway, for ME it wasn't worth futzing with trying to back-grade adobe reader JUST to get the old version of PFA to work - it would have taken a lot more than $12.95 worth of my time.
The new version provides SUCH a better view of Robin's hands and displays a midiculous light up keyboard sync's to what he plays, so it is a worthwhile upgrade anyway.

Well, that means I do have the new version because I do not have any .mov files. Therefore, the videos, themselves, must be embedded in the PDF files. They are very nice.

I just tried playing a video from within a few of the books, and I got an error, saying the file - in a described location - couldn't be played. So yes, it seems the embeddings in the old versions of the PFA books were simply pointers to files.

I believe I threw the MOV files away, after I had converted them to MP4s, to be able to play them in my TV. Later I got to download the iPad versions, which are regular MP4 files, and play on desktops and laptops as well.

I'm not getting the upgrade, if there is no separate download of only the HD video files, and preferably the audios as well. When I was working on the program, I used to watch all videos of one or two chapters, studying the progressions.

I also missed having the audios as MIDI files. It helps a lot in sight reading and time keeping to be able to play the sections being worked on, in a notation player. Actually I notated some of them myself, for that purpose.

I can see that Theodore.
There may be a way to detach the videos from the new files, but there are so many of them that it could be an arduous task.

Another weirdness, it APPEARS that the newer files don't open in Linux - at least not on any of the Linux machines that I have tried so far.

Yes, it's probably a tedious task, getting the videos out. I got the same result in Ubuntu Studio 15.10, nothing happens when clicking on Play Video. Foxit Reader is available in Linux, though the link down below, says it lacks some features, compared to the Windows version. Haven't tried it myself. Maybe the more strict security in Linux forbids opening embedded files?

Just adding my voice to those who like this program. I'm a lifelong guitarist who has been noodling on/pounding on the piano for years. I already knew about half of book 1 and the R&B left hand rhythms on book 2. So now I'm on book 3. I feel like I am finally understanding what it's going to take to be a good player and can see some light at the end of the tunnel for getting there. I heartily recommend PianoForAll, especially considering the price.
