Just saw this on my OCD perusal of Craigslist... Might be a gem...

At first I thought you might be being curmudgeonly but having looked I agree. None of the photos show the model number or serial number nor even a wider view of the inside, nor even a decent sideview. The close up of the hammers would seem to indicate light use or recent voicing work (no deep grooves). I don't care about prizes from over a century ago and the view of the hinge is supposed to indicate what??

It kind of looks like the handy-work of a cunning/crafty used piano dealer posing as a private seller. It has all the tale-tell signs...

Just call me Sherlock (or Watson will do grin ) ...

If the ad and the seller are legit, the price does seem like a bargain (pending a closer inspection).

If you look at the background of the last picture you can see at least two and possibly three more pianos behind it. Perhaps some kind of piano dealer's showroom?

I thought the same when I saw the pictures earlier. Normally, if people aren't thinking about it, you'll get one wide photo of the whole piano. In this case, it seems to be a lot of detailed photos, but of nothing really significant or meaningful.

Yeah, if it's truly in "excellent condition" then it could be a nice deal.

I like the old Baldwin logo. Did Baldwin make the SF-10 long enough ago to have the old logo? Or is that a different 7 foot model?

Before the SF-10, there was the F.

That's what I noticed as well.

Wishing the photos showed more, especially because Baldwin bridges have a tendency to crack along the seams of the laminations.

I doubt this is a dealer, in spite of the other pianos in the background, for one reason. What dealer would take photos of a piano when it is so obviously dirty and unappealing? Couldn't they at least wipe away the grime that is so visible in the photo of the fall board?

My 2 cents,

Sorry, Guapo, it ain't my house or my piano. It's likely 3000 miles in the opposite direction from my meager little goat farm in Georgia. smile

Besides, I don't plan on selling any of my current pianos any time soon; except I plan to give one to my 12 year old granddaughter.

Ret:
re: the Baldwin logo - you and me both, brother.
I find the so-called modern style revolting and tacky.
And, about the old model F: I've played three or four of them over the years. They've all been splendid, handsome-sounding pianos, quite different from a B, but equally fine in a different way.

I agree. Totally useless pics. That picture of the hinge should win some award.

C'mon folks, it's a picture of THE LID. Would you buy a piano that didn't have a lid? I don't think so! Where would you stack your music? Where would singers put their coats? Trumpet players put their cases?

My 2 cents,

Shazbot!

Someone used a few too many choice swear words whilst practicing at that piano, leaving dried spit blobs on the fallboard (c'on now, admit it, we're all guilty). 😜

Wow guys! Sorry... I saw it on craigslist... I am not shopping for one as I just got my Baldwin L in November. If you read the OP, I said it could be a gem... can't totally tell by the pictures, but if it truly is in excellent shape, then the price might be worth a look, incase anyone was looking!

Yikes... LOL

BTW, My piano teacher, back in the 80s had 3 pianos in her home and a hammond organ... ;-)

Don't take offence at some of the comments, neciebugs. Most all threads posted on the piano forum are micro-analyzed and then analyzed again. grin

When I was looking for a 7 footer, I was really tempted to drive up to Raleigh-Durham, NC (450 miles away?) to look at a late 1960's Baldwin 7 footer. The owner/seller, an older woman and concert pianist, said her father purchased it for her new in the late 60's. She was asking $6K and said her piano tech said it was worth twice that.

So, bargains do come along. And, when they do, we have to be in a position to act quickly, or someone else will. smile

I'm sure you all are enjoying your new-to-you Baldwin L!

All the best,

Rick

No worries, Denise. The snarky comments are directed at the photography, not the piano. The piano may well be a gem.

I think the "gem" critique was tongue-in-cheek, especially when you look at the linked picture.
