It started very promising: "VIRTUAL HAMMER ACTION TECHNOLOGY [NEW]" and other salivation producing stuff to end up with: "The individual Fatar keybeds are...". Yeah, I admit, I am prejudiced but I am yet to see a Fatar keyboard that I like. Hopefully that's it, who knows...

Yea, I really wanted to like the Nord I tried years ago but the action ruined it for me.

Let's hope Fatar has improved their action.

Im also curious about this new action. It might be the TP/40 Wood, but they would have mentioned wood. Cant tell by the photo. Plus, they do not mention if it's graded weighted action or aftertouch. Regardless, triple sensor is a nice (expected) upgrade.

In another forum, a guy (Spider76) suggests that FATAR might possibly do a brand customized action.

It's interesting what Nord exactly mean by "Virtual hammer action technology". From the descriptions it seems to be that they just use the triple sensor data to allow better repetitions, more key triggering positions and release velocity. But all that seems to be implied by triple sensor key actions. I doubt anyone expects the triple-sensor action to miraculously create all those effects by itself smile It is clear you have to interpret the triple sensor data and use it the proper way. In other words, I believe all digital pianos with triple-sensor technology in fact have also "virtual hammer-action technology" but it is Nord who decided to give it name and advertise it as something special smile Might be wrong though.

When I look at the Fatar site, the pictures of the keybeds show ribbon cables coming from the keys. In my old K2500 the Fatar keybed has no active electronics, and I assume that is still true. So, each manufacturer is probably using it's own 'special sauce' in the scanning of the sensors and the software interpretation of the sensor data. When Clavia uses the term 'virtual' I assume this is all done in software. I know from my own experience that small changes in MIDI velocity curves (all done in software) can trick the player's senses and make the keyboard feel differently. So it's possible, IMHO, that internal software in a keyboard can change the perceived feel of the mechanical keybed.

Now if they can get the price down well under $3,000US this might be a winner.

We'll probably go down there on Thursday or Friday. I'll post my thoughts on it , providing there's not a line 10 deep to play *one* NP3. wink

Also hope they provide decent phones. They usually do.

Nice!

The triple sensor action is not entirely unexpected, given the teaser video posted a few days ago, while the increased memory and larger display are welcome additions from the NE5.

Now all we need is some brand new (and un-amped!) Rhodes/Wurly samples to take advantage of that lovely 1GB memory. wink

Cheers,
James

Local dealer here started discounting NP2 already.
And they said "the new one could be more expensive." Uggghhhh.

If you plan on gigging frequently, choosing a stage piano is all about tradeoffs: sound, weight, action, etc. There is no perfect board, just something that works for you. After churning through several, I ended up with the Nord Piano 2 which has served me admirably for the last few years.

While the Nord Piano 3 looks to be no slouch (improved action, more memory, etc.) a discounted Nord Piano 2 should not be ignored as a viable option for gigging piano players.

It looks to be a very nice update! I'm very curious to see what people think of the new action. Now that we've got an updated electro and piano, I'm also hoping for some very nice things in a new Nord Stage 3. Probably have to wait until next year for that.

My Nord stage 3 wishlist is actually not so huge

More memory of course, ideally 2 gig for pianos and 1 gig for samples, organ improvements from the C2D and including the pipe organ, the ability to split it into 2 manuals AND have a pedalboard, and the new interface/LCD screen. I might want the new action too, but I'll reserve judgement until I have an opportunity to get hands on one. Probably none of that will come to pass, but if it did I'd sell my NS2 in a heartbeat and start cobbling together my pennies for the upgrade. smile

Somewhat expected at $2,999.00 (2,499.00 would've been nice)

At that price, it gets outperformed by its much cheeper competitors, MP7 and RD800

And it just doesnt have the things that makes the Stage 2 a force of its own...

Yeah, that's a lot of dough ! $2500 street does seem more in line.

If you know where to shop, they can be had lower. But even with a discounted price, it's still a lot.

But as we all know, they certainly have their fans that will pay the higher price.

I'll probably go on Friday and give my 2 cents fwiw. smile

OT detour- It would be nice to see some new Avant Grands. Played an N2 on a gig a couple weeks back , and wow !! That's the only way to go if you can't have an acoustic grand. I don't think I've ever sounded better on a non-acoustic keyboard.

Dave, hmmm maybe I should go for a Piano3? (lol.) Also, nice to hear you digging the N2, especially since you got the D. The N2 is my best choice and I've enjoyed every minute, especially that it's always in tune and that I can easily record. thumb
