Wasn't sure best place to post this but here goes. I can't seem to find good lighting for my piano which lives in my living room where there is no overhead lighting. I only have 3.5 inches behind the sheet music support for a lamp base. I currently use the Mighty Bright Duet, clipped on to the top of the sheet music support but the light isn't all that bright and one led bulb is brighter and 'whiter' than the other, a distraction. Also, if I have more than two pages of music spread out, the Duet doesn't provide good coverage. Any suggestions on what type of lamp or lighting you are using that works well where ambient room light or overhead lighting isn't available? Thanks!

The Duet is an old design based on a cheap book light. If you like the clip on lights look at the Mighty Bright Hammerhead and Orchestra lights. There is simply no comparison to the Duet. Six or nine l.e.d.s vs 2 and having them spread out under a shade does wonders for evening out the spread across two pages. I have the bigger Orchestra and it covers 3 pages adequately. It's bright enough that I use it mostly on low, even with my 57 year old eyes. The materials and design are to a higher standard than the duet as well. I have had mine about 2 years with no problems. I haven't tried it on batteries so I can't comment on battery life. The a.c. adaptor is included.

I don't know how bright the MB duet is, but I use 3 of the Mighty Bright lights from Costco, each with 4 LEDs to light 2 pages of music. I seem to spend a lot of time recharging batteries (9AAA). No AC adaptor capability on these. If I have a piece of music that goes more than 2 pages, I put it into Finale Note Pad, and condense it down to two pages. I've done this with up to 4 pages, and had to use a bit of cut and paste on a few. The MBs can probably illuminate 3 pages, but my cataracts are making me need more light.

I have a csocoweb piano floor lamp and love it. I went to the site and they don't have the lamp i bought showing on the sight... There is the classic... They are pricy... but very nice. low profile and LED! http://www.cocoweb.com/piano-floor-lamps/

I took lessons under a tabletop version of the Koncept lamp. It's a really nice light. Bright but even and glare free. Easy on the eyes. I understand they've been improved since then but I don't know how. I do seem to remember that you can now choose between warm and daylight white l.e.d.s.

OP here, thanks for all the suggestions. Those who have suggested the LED lamps, they seem pricey. Some are $300+. I'm not clear on whether the bulbs are replaceable. My understanding is that LED bulbs are supposed to have 50K to 100K of hours usage. I have the Mighty Bright which appears to have dimmed after having it for 2 years, not even close to the time usage rating. I would hate to spend several hundred dollars only to have to spend it again because I couldn't replace an inexpensive bulb! Do these more expensive lamps have replaceable bulbs or do you throw the baby out with the bath water?

The Troy piano floor lamp that I linked above takes a 60T10 bulb which is a bulb with a screw base. Obviously the bulb in the lamp is replaceable. The information on the lamp indicates such a bulb is "required" which undoubtedly means that one has to be bought for the lamp and would be replaceable when it burns out. Regards,

When I got my Casio AP-650 I discovered that my former piano lamp solution (an old floor lamp) didn't work any more since this piano is wider and the lamp sits too far back from the music stand. So I just now use a simple arm lamp that looks exactly like this. I actually had one laying around unused so it didn't cost me anything at all. I clamped it to the desk that sits beside my piano and the lamp reaches across to be exactly where I want it to illuminate the sheet music. It appears that you can purchase a new arm lamp for around $20 if you don't have one already, so that's a whole lot cheaper than a special piano lamp that costs almost as much as my first digital piano did.

I have one of these as well, mahogany finish since my piano is wood tone. I haven't had any trouble finding a bulb for it and am using the CFL version.

This is the lamp you will want. Hands down one of my best purchases. I thought about a cocoweb but for a couple hundred bucks for a lamp that you can't change the bulbs and has no lifetime or several year guarantee, forget it. This one was found on Amazaon for under $40.00 bucks. Looks great, low profile with a sturdy very positionable base that can be removed if you like to make your own. Also illuminates very well, even has a few different brightness and temperature options to choose from. Makes you wonder how much profit is made on the cocoweb. Similar to Bruce's suggestion, I use this with success. Highly adjustable. Koncept Floor Lamp dHull100, do you use this for a grand or an upright? Is it tall and extensible enough to place the light squarely above the music desk? I want a floor lamp for my grand because I close the piano up when not in use; I love the look of the Koncept Z-bar floor lamp version but one Amazon reviewer noted that the lamp is shorter than expected, in reference to using it with a piano. The measurements in the specs aren't easy to interpret because I suspect it depends on the horizontal reach and angles of the segments. I'm also considering this Cocoweb lamp (a.k.a Conoco), the taller though not nearly as cool-looking Koncept Equo and the elegant old war horse House of Troy counterbalance floor lamp that many people here have. I prefer the more modern and sleek Koncept and Conoco lamps, but ultimately having the light where I need it takes precedence. Would appreciate feedback on any of these choices by people who have them (yes I've searched and read all available comments but more is always better for the obsessive shopper, right?) Eric

I'm pretty in love with my new Kvart from Ikea. All kinds of adjustable, they fixed the switches so they are on the back of each shade now, and with LED bulbs the metal shades don't get hot. The bulbs are great too; there are choices for warmth/color of light and brightness. Eric Eric, I will attempt to photograph how I use it and paste a link. I place it behind me usually. I am surprised that someone complained. I use it with a grand piano. I have a corresponding desk lamp used heavily at work, and I have had no issues with either. Great quality and highly adjustable. Edit: it can be above music desk. The light is of sufficient brightness that this will not be necessary.

What a nice thing to do - thank you for photographing your setup. It's very helpful (and very nice to see your lovely piano). I do believe I will order this lamp. Do you have the cool or the warm light temperature?
