Husbands come first, especially on their birthday! And, dealing with a sick child is always difficult. It is great that you managed to get to the piano at all! Hopefully today is better for you!

I have to excuse myself for the next period 25 June - 10 July.

We have a big rebuilding inside our house and the Kawai will be covered........so we'll live for these days in a holyday house in the area. Do not know if I wll find a piano somewhere. Perhaps I will have time to play at the college where I work.

Best regards,
Johan B

Well, I think I really did blow it on Sat. 6/25! I was invited to a surprise birthday party out of town and so I had a few hours in the morning to take care of stuff, got home at a somewhat reasonable time, but totally forgot to play piano! Oops!

We're already halfway through the year, but I'd love to sign up for this. This may be just what I need to keep me going. Thanks!

I just returned from the EPP (European Piano Party) in Milan. It was an absolute blast. I played a little everyday, so my MOYD is intact. Check out the thread under parties for more info on this event.

Johan B, Enjoy your holiday house and I hope your remodel goes smoothly. Let me know what days to add to your excused list. I hope you find some pianos waiting to be played!

motoduc - I have added your vaction dates - 6/23-6/27. I hope you had a good time!

Morodienne - OOpsa! I will put you back on the wagon!

SadieLady Enjoy the 4th! I have your excused dates.

AdamS - Welcome! I will add you to our Late Starter's List.

I almost fell off the wagon yesterday... I was a tad tired smile

However a minuet in G and my scales saved the day!

Is the theme here that you have to play every day?
Some of my greatest improvements have come from having days away from the piano, and even days away from listening to music.
I routinely have weeks where I only play 3-4 days every week and I usually improve more than when I play every day for several weeks in a row.

My experience has been that letting a piece of work rest for a while is greatly beneficial. There comes a point in regular practice of a piece that it seems to be going nowhere. That's when it's best when to stop. But that doesn't mean you stop playing - there's lots more music to begin! I've just come back from a month away and as frustrating as it was for my psyche I did actually relax about it and came home to feel that those pieces I'd been working on were actually so much easier than I remembered. There's still lots of work to really play them as well as I want but I felt good about it and eager to make more progress! So unless there isn't a piano around MOYD is my base line and I like the accountability. It helps my self discipline even though it is only myself that I would ever be fooling if I bent the rules! Now after a few years it's neat to have a history to review of the times I've been away from the keyboard!

Days away from a specific piece you're working on is definitely beneficial. But even 1 day away from playing piano and you begin to suffer for it - your mind remembers and your fingers think they know where to go, but don't quite hit the key right on. My sight-reading deteriorates as well.

It is this latter thing that MOYD tries to curb, but certainly you decide exactly what you work on. Maybe you just run through some technical exercises or scales to keep the "muscle memory" going if your repertoire needs a break.

I spent four days in the mountains, but thanks to the digital piano I managed to do something very early before leaving and very late after arriving back at home.
So I need to be put on the excused list only for July 5-6.

What a fabulous European Piano Party! Casinitaly and her wonderful husband were perfect hosts and I thank them.

Please mark me excused for:
June 21-June 30 (in Bologna for a conference and a few days in Venice)
July 4-6 final days in Milan and then home

Missed my piano while I was traveling for sure.

I haven't missed a single day. There are still 5 months to go, though. If I ever miss one, there would not be an excuse other than laziness...

Last sunday played for about one and a half hour in a restaurant on a nice May Berlin.....jazz standards and Händel suites....and they liked it.....

Now I can play every day at home......

I need to be excused for July 8 & 9. I was away for 3 days - found a piano on the 7th, but not on the 8th or 9th.

Qazsedcft - I added July 9-12 to your excused list.

joyousong - I added July 8-9 to yours. Glad you found a piano to play!

Johan B. - I added June 25-July 2, July 4-10 to you list. Sorry to hear that your remodel did not go as planned. Surprises in that area are never fun! It sounds like you gave a fun concert on Sunday!
