Need help deciding between the pianos listed. I've played them all but can't compare side by side because no store in my area carries all of them.

I really liked the kawai cn35 slightly better than the 34, however the 34 is $1850, while the 35 is $2500. The touch was better and sound was improved with the extra speakers. Overall like the kawai most but hard to say with a side by side comparison.

The roland hp603 was nice. Good feel, sound through headphones was a marked improvement over cabinet speakers. Liked the connectivity features, the ability to tweak the key stiffness and 10 year warranty. Big improvement over the 504/506 which i also played. Price is most expensive $2750. Sound was the least favorite of all of these, but probably the best overall package.

Yamaha had the best sound (in my opinion), but key action was stiffer and lacked features of the roland and kawai. Price is $2500. Nice cabinet (wife like the look of this and Roland best).

Was expecting to be blown away by the roland but just became more confused. I keep coming back to the kawai but not sure if the cn35 upgrades are worth it relative to price.

Am I missing any features that make one of these pianos more compelling than the others?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello Pianohouse, welcome to the forum.

I don't believe so. Given that you have played all the models under consideration, I expect you are familiar with the keyboard touch and piano sound offered by the three main manufactures. If price is less of a factor, I would rule-out the CN34 on the basis that it is an older generation model, and because you prefer the improved action and speaker system.

If you have access to an iPad, one useful feature of the CN35 is the ability to adjust a number of parameters using the free 'Virtual Technician' app, as an alternative to the instrument's panel interface.

In all honesty, I believe they're all very good digital pianos - it's impossible to make a bad decision, so I would suggest purchasing the instrument that you enjoyed playing the most.

Kind regards,
James

From your responses, it seems that the CN35 should be the one. It's not the most expensive, and you liked the action and the sound, whereas the Roland you didn't care for the sound and the Yamaha you said the action was "stiffer" (which I took to mean a negative).

As James said, they're all good pianos. So now it's down to choosing which ever one your heart says to buy.

Hi, for me CN34 has best key action of that bunch and maybe on par with HP603, then CN35 and last Yamaha CLP535, people tastes can agree or disagree, but at the end all are top notch quality actions. Have a nice day!.

Do you already know if you will play it mostly with headphones or mostly without? Is it going into a small room?

The CN35 has two more speakers (facing upwards) and to me this makes a big difference. However, this is not so relevant if you play mostly with headphones.

When we decided (in January), there was the CLP535 and the HP504 as alternatives, price wise, so the CN35 won easily: the extra speakers, the better action, the nicer sound. Of course, the last two are much about personal preference. Oh, and the CN35 cost the least of the three.
A fried brought the HP504 because his son is playing mostly with headphones, liked the action and felt that the HP504 had a better range from ppp to fff.

I agree that the HP603 is, at its price point, unnecessarily limited by its only two speakers. If one likes the sound, the resonance modeling is best in class.

Kawai CN35. Daughter wanted a piano, so we got one. Now who'll learn faster? ;-)

IMHO, if you already prefer the action and sound on the CN34 and 35 to the Roland/Yamaha - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you step up to the CA67. The grand feel action on the 67 is phenomenal (I believe it's the cheapest Kawai piano you can get that offers the grand feel action). Granted it's more expensive that the CN35, but only slightly more so than the HP603, but playing all of these piano's side by side, think the step-up in action is worth it.
