Oh ho, Copper. But I've only been in two outside of the quarterlies, so I'd still be even with Dannylux - fist pump, eh?

There might be some apples and oranges there. Sam's list includes some recital performances outside the 40 quarterly ABF recitals.

Yes, sorry, they also include four themed recitals.

Thanks wouter79 and 8 Octaves for your posts about the volume. smile I did end up increasing in audacity a bit so hopefully now it is sufficient but not too loud. if it is then at least everyone has a volume control on their computers.

I managed to get a recording done today, so I am in! I might try for better tomorrow, but this was the best of four takes today. It always seems my first take ends up being the best.

Great that you enjoyed it, that's what we do it for. But what do you mean, not better? Better at what? Maybe, get a teacher that will explain you how to get better? Or ask feedback here?

Peyton is just being modest - I don't think he needs any advice! He plays his own compositions, classical - whatever he wants, and makes it sound easy.

Nice of you Sam, and thanks. It was kind of a self deprecating nod at how hard we all work and how slow the progress seems to come. In the end… it's just fun and for us "amateurs" that's all that really matters.

Has anyone ever done this, -- after learning correctly and memorizing a piece ( Bach Menuet 116 )_ I ended up playing an extra note in the melody . Repeatedly…..
And realized it now- after I submitted - so I got to do another take …

Can't wait to hear your piece piano_primo_1. I'm learning that, and I'm not sure how fast it should be played.
Good luck dropping that extra note, amazing how they creep in sometimes.

Recital deadline is drawing ever nearer... sick

Just to let y'all know, I have the delightful privilege of judging at my son's speech tournament on Saturday, a mind-numbingly tedious gratifying opportunity for parental involvement in my child's activities. This will keep me fully occupied and with limited access to email and the internet from roughly 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. So, if you have any problems trying to submit your recordings during the day, don't freak out if you don't hear from me until later in the evening. smile

Yea… been there and done that. In fact… still there and still doing it. smile I had a piece in a recital, up on youtube for a year… thought it was fine. In fact, I really liked the way I played it. Then someone here on the forum, someone with a better ear than I, noticed that I was playing a note wrong. A very significant note that repeats throughout the piece. I had memorized the work like that and never went back and double checked with the music. Thing is… unless it really sounds horrible or bothers me terribly I am not going to worry too much about it. For me I'd rather play a piece smoothly and with feeling rather than technically perfect but plodding and boring. (But now, whenever I play the piece, I do play it with the correct note… ) smile

I've done it. In one piece that I have on soundcloud, I somehow played on the spot an entire measure by mistake. Yet that's the one that got the most likes. I'm not sure why but the more popular tracks of mine actually have more errors than the note perfect ones. I think when I'm focused on being note perfect, the music comes off less convincing. Sometimes note perfect is not better.

Worse yet...I play a piece fine many times, and when I turn the camera on, multiple mistakes in places I've never made before appear and repeat continuously! So much so that I have to go back and re-work these areas that I never had a problem with to begin with! So frustrating!

I added a video to my submission... I thought by now I'd know this piece well enough to just play it, but I still had to struggle and the best recording has a mistake. Whatever! Time to move on! Invention no. 8, here I come! grin
