Ok, here's the next piano I've found! Based on the advice of some of the members I started looking at larger pianos and have found a 1977 Kawai BL 51 for $2000. Owner's daughter took lessons then quit, so "it has 98% of its life left." Of course I'll check it out in person, but what are your thoughts on this piano? I know it was made in Japan. I've seen some beautiful YouTube videos of this model and year being played.
As always, thank you for your advice!!

If it was bought new by the owners, I'd say it sounds like a great deal. If they bought it used you might want to have it checked out by qualified technician. (I have an older (1969) Kawai K48A and I love it!)

Kawai makes a great piano in my book, as well as Yamaha.

Good luck and keep us informed!

Thanks for your reply! I'm hoping to get a tech to her soon to check it out. If it's in good shape do you think the price is fair?

If the piano has 98% of the "goodie" left in it... yes, I think $2K is a decent price; a bit on higher side, but not outrageous. smile

To make yourself feel better about the price, check out a new Kawai upright model, similar to the BL 51, and check out the price. That is the strategy Rick Jones (with Rick Jones Pianos) uses, and it appears to work. His business seems to thrive.

Good luck!

After 38 years, age alone will take maybe 30-40% of a piano's life.
