Hi,

We have an upright Baldwin piano built in the 1970s that we want to
sell. It is very good condition; The height is 37'' and the length is 57".

My question is how can I determine the approximate amount for which
we can sell the piano?

I checked for something similar online, but I did not find much.

Thanks,
IF

Look for comps on Craig's List -- likely it won't be much.

I just sold mine for $1100. It was in beautiful condition. I've seen worse condition for $3000 at the music store. Ask higher than you expect, so you can negotiate lower.

If it's 37" tall, it's a spinet, not a console. These were the cheapest piano models of every company that made them, and the tonal and action designs were compromised by limitations in size, price, and quality. This size of piano is no longer sold today in the North American market for these reasons.

"Very good condition" would mean the piano was tuned in the last 6 months, the regulation and voicing are acceptable, the case has no significant damage, all pedals and keys work, and it would pass a technical inspection of the inner-workings of the piano without needing repairs (though adjustments may be advised). If that is the case, the spinet may have a value in the hundreds (definitely not thousands) of dollars. If that's not the case, the piano is likely to have little value today.

A spinet for $3,000? Perhaps it was a console or a studio?

+1
If it hasn't been tuned in years, has water stains, etc., you might find it difficult to get a couple hundred.

I've found that prices for used pianos can be all over the place, from free to dirt cheap, to astronomical.

I agree with JohnSprung; Google other similar pianos for sale and look for an average. A lot depends on your local and the demand for used pianos in your area.

Good luck!

Rick

That is what it should mean. It usually means that it might have been tuned once but definitely not since the last child who kinda, sorta was interested in piano gave it up, and there are no visible defects to the untrained eye.
