I am sure it sounds too familiar to you, a young boy is about to start piano class, so the parents are out hunting... I read Larry Fine's book, and budgeted c$3k-5k, btw I don't play music myslef... to be honest for only 3 weeks I have been quite exhausted, and I need your help.

We have one Yamaha/samick dealer, one Kawai/petrof dealer and a few home business here, so I find dealor's price are high, new Yamaha U1 c$8600, new Kawai KX21 c$4800, for used piano 1977 Yamaha U1 c$4400, 2004 Kawai K25 c$6800... on private sales side, I found a 1991 Baldwin Acrosonic, 40", light oak plain style, C$2900 and 2002 Kawai KX21, C$4100 in my price range.

I am leaning towards Baldwin but I have read no-so-positive feedbacks on Acrosonic from the forum. Should I settle down with any of the used ones, especially the Arcosonic? what is the fair market price then.

I bought an Acrosonic spinet in the 1960s as my first piano, and I played it until 2003, when I bought a grand.

Just about every tuner who worked on it over the years would comment on its sound, which was much better than one would expect from a spinet, and of course the word "acrosonic" was probably coined because it appears to mean "high sound."

If the Acrosonic is in good condition, it may serve you well for a fairly long time.

I would read Fine's section on the differences between actions: grand vs. upright vs. spinet.
I would avoid the smaller uprights because of the action-type used (unless that is truly all you can afford).

You are really the expert! Yes, it says model 2065A and light oak finish, I guess no long in production so I can't find information on that particular model. Like you said, the similar model today is 2095 which is 43", so I don't know how close they are. would you please shed some light on the differences between the two? Also, after re-reading Fine's book I am a bit hesitate, 40" is the smallest console.

It seems clean inside out, very little wear and tear. The owner claims 8 years old but s/n tells built in 1991, there is a 1991 acrosonic Queen Anne style on ebay asking for US$1,250, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...=7332743152&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW, it makes C$2900 quite high.

Sorry for the double posting, I was just going back screens and didn't what happened.

BTW, Winter here isn't too bad as long as you dress up warm and keep inside.
