We bought my beloved Boston 178 grand in 2005 under the Steinway buy back program and now in 2015, a lifelong dream is coming true. My husband wanted a bigger grand with beautiful wood and I wanted the rich sound I've always loved about Steinway. We caved in and picked a Santos Rosewood Model A that was commissioned for Tanglewood. It will be delivered sometime next month when we can settle a date when I'll be home from my travels( I work for the airlines) and my husband can be home as well.

Greetings, where exactly did you pick it from?

I am surprised that a festival would commission a wood veneer piano. What is the story behind that?

Looking forward to pictures.

Best wishes-

It was designed at the NY Steinway factory for Tanglewood in 2006 and was used during the season of 2014 by a "famous" conductor, name withheld for privacy reasons and sat on the floor at M. Steinert for a year. I was told by my dealer that it was "comissioned" for Tanglewood. It's a 6'2 Santos Rosewood. My husband has been to Tanglewood and I haven't so I'm anxious to go someday. M. Steinert is located in downtown Boston in a historic building across from the beautiful Public Gardens. You take this old fashioned elevator to go up to the 2nd floor where there are 2 large rooms, one exclusively for Boston/Essex and other trade ins and one just for Steinways. BTW, how do I post JPGs on this forum?

Wow! Congratulations! smile

There has been some issues with the website regarding posting pictures. If the pic is already on a website and has a URL (ending with jpg), it is easy to post. Open a full reply post screen and click the 4th icon from the left. A drop down menu appears and select "enter a non-floating image". A post box will come up at the top of the screen and just enter the URL address and click OK. (Note... There is already an http there so be careful to remove it when you copy and past the URL, so the "http is not entered twice.)

Good luck!!

I wonder if it was commissioned for Tanglewood or just happened to spend a summer there. I was one of the piano techs there two summers ago, and there were several art case and crown jewel pianos there. Several (mainly crown jewel Ms and a couple Ls) were permanent Tanglewood property, but most were just part of Steinway's festival fleet.

In any case, congratulations! The A is a wonderful instrument, and if it was at Tanglewood it received a good prep and very regular maintenance.

She said it was "designed" by Steinway for Tanglewood and is marketed as a "festival Piano" as part of the "crown jewel" collection. I took a photo with my iphone. It's a jpeg on my desktop. When I tried to post it as a "non-floating" image, it just showed up with a http sign. How do I change it or is it not possible to post photos from an iphone? The latest "snafu" with my delivery is the master cabinet person with Steinert is on vacation. I hope he gets back in time for the final prep before the piano leaves the store! I'm flying from the 1st until the 17th so I hope to swing by Steinert the day before delivery and see how it's progressing.

If you've got the photo as a jpeg on your desktop, first you need to upload it to a website so that it's available on the internet. You can't just attach photos to your post here like you could with an email, unfortunately. You can only include links to the photos, which must be hosted somewhere else.

It's normally possible (though not straightforward) to upload photos to Pianoworld, but Rickster says that may not be working well at the moment.
You could set up an account at the image hosting website of your choice (something like photobucket.com?) and upload the photo there..
