Hi Everyone, I am from Hong Kong. I am a adult who have played guitar for over 10 years and now I am learning piano. Because of the small living space in HK, I decide to buy a silent piano. I was thinking to buy a digital (CLP585), but after half a year learning on a Petrof grand piano, my ear start to heard the different between acoustic and digital.

In HK, only one music store sell new Yamaha, and one other music store sell new Kawai (Yes, all other music store only sell second hand Yamaha/Kawai). So I compare Kawai K-300 ATX2 and Yamaha U1 silent. When I saw online, they are very similar, and around same price. However, HK people loves Yamaha, U1 silent is over 80K HKD, and K300 ATX-2 is around 60K HKD. I like the U1 silent sound, but because of the unfair price different in HK, I pick Kawai. Also intro-mid level piano buyer mainly are parents buy piano for kids. They will not add 15 to 20k HKD to buy a silent piano. the music store still have K-3 ATX in stock can't sold out, so they will not import ATX2 model. End up I need to special order and wait for a month to get my K300 ATX-2 and keep my finger cross it is a good one. I order the no sound board speaker version, because I "think" a metal attached to the sound board will change the acoustic sound.

Here is my piano!

Just beautiful! Good luck.

I had a Kawai UST-7 studio upright for some time. I believe Kawai makes wonderful pianos.

The model with soundboard speaker call ATX2-f, you can find the list of models in kawai.jp (use chrome translate) Look at this pic, this speaker attach to the sound board and I wonder how much tone can be effect the acoustic sound. Also if you really want to hear the digital sound, you can always attach an external speaker or hi-fi. That's why I order the model without speaker. About the price, ATX2-f and ATX2 is not a much different, only few thousand HKD.

My K300 has been arrived to my home for a month. I found the octave below middle C sound especially good. At first, the upper octave did not sound "as good and open" as other K300 in warehouse, but after 2 weeks and dealer tune my piano at home, then the upper octave sound very nice now. I love it a lot and play a lot now. I also found that the size of my living room does matter a lot, it sound a lot louder than warehouse, and I found that the distance between wall matter a lot. now when I play a lot on weekend, I will move like 4 inch from the wall, and afterward I push it back less than 1 inch against the wall. So my wife won't complain...

Suddenly think about this post. can't believe it has been 7 years ago. Time flies.

I sold my k300 ATX2 in HK, moved to Canada, then I just buy a used Yamaha DC6 2 2001 weeks ago!!

May I ask, why did you sell your k300 ATX2? I'm asking since I just have the option to buy a k300 ATX2 for a very good price - alternatively to a CA 99 (same price). Thanks

Chris, the original post is a few months old, and this sun-forum doesn’t get much traffic. Reading through this thread and another post by the OP, it looks like he/she sold the k300 when he/she relocated from Hong Kong to Canada. I can imagine it would have been very expensive to transport the piano. They bought an almost 7 foot grand piano after moving to Canada.

If you want more information, you could try PM’ing the OP. You could also start a new thread in the main Piano forum about the pianos you are considering.
