Yui Morishita. One of the best Japanese pianists in the world.

Alkan
More Alkan
Schumann
Rachmaninoff
Original composition (I played this one)
Original composition, like a Liszt opera fantasy, but with anime music instead
Ridiculously virtuosic J-pop piece

He's also releasing an Alkan CD in a couple months. He recorded one CD before that contains mostly anime transcriptions/compositions coupled with Beethoven's last piano sonata.

He's an incredible virtuoso, but also has a great approach to style, voicing, and sensitivity.

And there's an amusing story as to why he sometimes uses a stage name smile

Daniil Trifonov has just recorded his "Rachmaniana" for DG on an all-Rach recording. I think he also has a concerto.

I completely agree. It seems that "The Greats" (whichever field that may be) lived in "The Zone". Switching the mindset becomes a huge distraction, and makes it much harder to get back to the place you left off in order to make the best progress. It's like those really deep practice sessions that only get deep after a couple hours of practice (speaking from my own experience, obviously). Taking the time to place something in a nice order in your mind and then jumbling it all up only to have to reorganize it later is a very wasteful process. This is where a good visual mind can help by continually reviewing and not letting all of the pieces fall apart between practice/study sessions. If something is with you at all times it's hard to lose it.

There is a big difference between knowing something and being good at executing. One is conscious, the other is subconscious, and the path to the subconscious does not usually lead through the conscious.

After that wonderful transcription of the Adagietto, I've just found another Mahler transcription - by the winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn Competition, no less.
