A link found on a German forum:
http://www.musikhaus-hogrebe.de/ins...digital-pianos/kawai-es-8-schwarz-detail

Specs sound good. The new samples and sound engine (including the Shigeru Kawai Samples) are on board as well as the RH3 action.

Ok, Kawai James.

Cats out of the bag, you have some 'splaining to do.

[Linked Image]

"It was improved in substantial points opposite the ES7:

RH3 keyboard (ES7: RH2)
Harmonic Imaging XL sound engine (like CAx7 series, ES7: PHI)
3 "wing" [bad translation] sound: Shigeru Kawai ex, Kawai ex, Shigeru Kawai SK-5 (like CAx7 series)
Improved loudspeaker system
White model with new Snow White colour (ES7: Ivory White)
extended Virtual Technician
… and much more besides!"

How heavy?
How much?

Why would it be fake? ES7 is due for an update. The specs seem to be what would be expected for a successor. My ES7 was a work horse with 1000 plus hours on it. Excellent board. Cant wait to try the ES8.

Ok, obviously the cant deliver in 3-5 days... When these new DPs are leaked they seem to be plugged into vendor websites prematurely without much thought. Most likely not intentional by a webmaster that has nothing to do with the industry, but just saw that he needed to update site with some new info. We've seen this kind of thing happen happen before.

Fake because the picture is of an ES7 with the number on the left photoshopped to say ES8.

Also on the Forsyth's website it says:

Kawai ES8

Model id-kaw-es7b-X

Still, it is possible that Kawai has given word of a new model to retailers, but hasn't given any specifics or pictures yet, and the retailers are being er, a little over-zealous, and making their own promo materials.

Let's respect KJ's career and let him speak about it when he is legally allowed to. Im sure he would love to post all about the ES8 right now if he could. Catch you soon enough James!

The ES8 was officially announced on the Kawai Japan website today, Monday, 17 Aug 2015. See following link:

http://www.kawai.co.jp/news/20150817/

Use Google or MS Translate to translate from the Japanese. The announcement confirms the info leaked on the German website. The new model will be available in Japan on 12 Sep 2015.

So, what's new? Using the translate feature I see:

- HI-XL sound engine with more grand piano models featured, such as "SK-EX", nothing about Shigeru mentioned.
- RH3 keyboard.
- configurable from iPad
- Glossy finishes, snow white instead of ivory white

Not sure if the speakers have been improved. So, an evolutionary upgrade rather than revolutionary, as Kawai say smile Doesn't make me want to upgrade from ES7 which is already a very nice piano.

BTW, we have organized our living room around our ES7 where some of the furniture is in ivory white laugh Glossy snow white is kind of kitsch and less classy IMO.

SK is an abbreviation for Shigeru Kawai. E.g. SK-EX is the Shigeru Kawai EX concert grand wink

Shigeru Kawai SK-2, etc.

3 yrs of (engeneering) time wasted... Took an ES-7 put in a new Sample-ROM and RH-III Keyboard and voila: Here is the all *new* ES-8.

This how buy affordable slab DPs work: Improvements trickle down from the high-end models. If you expect to pay multiple years exclusive engineering buy a Clavia Nord or V-Piano.

The ES8 specs look impressing, sound like a C67 in a slab. I just hope, Kawai didn't mess with the connectivity options (pedals, MIDI, line, headphones) or invented other show stoppers. Then I will definitely get one next year.

I haven't tested the RH3 action yet but from its description it seems they have improved on the dynamic force of the action. All plastic actions need an improvement in this aspect since they are just some hollow plastic keys which imitate the static weight of a real piano but fail miserably when it comes to dynamic "weight". I've recently read a paper on modeling a real grand piano action and they ended up with a system of more than seventy (need to see the exact number but it was huge) differential equation. In other words, plastic action won't be able to recreate a real acoustic piano action easily (if ever). That doesn't make a plastic digital action less expressive though. It's just different.

Anyway, ES8 is just an ES7 with all the technology from its seniors coming "free", so the R&D costs are shared. That's basically what economy of scale is (if I am not mistaken and if the term in English is that).

http://m.kawai.co.uk/es8.htm

Available in the UK starting in September. No news on U.S. site yet.
Nice trickle down of internal features.
Disappointed they didn't change the body and shave some weight.

Available in white and black, 22,5kg. Half a KG more than the ES7.
48.5lbs frown

Of course I did not have an opportunity to see it live, so cannot judge by now, but I'm a little concerned about replacing Ebony White with Snow White. It's also quite a shame we don't have latest Shigeru samples in our MP7/11s.

Cannot wait it will reach some Warsaw shops to play it live.
