What is the distance between the two Rode NT55 mics in your last op.72 nocturne recording?

Dear Hakki:
The two mic distance is 130cm.
I like the sound to spaced two mics.

Have you tried a 3rd. track, with recording of the "room sound" in stereo? I've done some tests, and it gives an extra ressonance to the whole track, which you can control, because it's a separate track...
I'll try to record something and post on YT to know your opinion on this...

Dear Piano_Brazil:
I using cardioid.
With two Rode NT55 mics,
one is left and one is right far from piano,
near wall and spaced,
all toward soundboard.

Audio with two tracks one is from left mic and one is from right mic.

I hope answer your question.

I never try 3rd mic,maybe that's a good idea.

Lee

Dear Lee,
Here are two MP3 files, both recorded with NT55 positioned slightly under the open lid, facing the soundboard.
[Linked Image

Test 004.1 has 3 original tracks: 1 and 2 with the RODE mics, with pan right and left, and track 3 with the mics of the ZOOMQ8, in stereo mode.
<a href=Test 004.1
+10dB

In test 004.2 I have muted the 3rd track, with the "room reverberation"
Test 004.2
+10dB

Can you hear the difference? Which one do you prefer?

Dear Piano_Brazil:

For this piece, i prefer Test 004.1.
You combined Q8's XY mics, so many stereo.

But Test 004.2 is more clear, pure piano original tone.

See my Test #010 ,it's also contined Q8's XY mics and Rode NT55s.

PS:I survive in this storm, just kidding, thanks your care.

P_B, nice recordings. Thanks for sharing.

One thing that disturbs me is the "thump" sound that is heard with every pedal change. Probably transmitted through the wooden floor to the mic booms. You should take some precautions to eliminate that sound.

Dear Hakki:
Your ear is so sensitive,Piano_Brazi's home is a wooden house.
I listen again then i hear "thump" too.

Please listen my last recording again:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-muK56CKIE0
At the time:
2'16"
2'47"
3'9"
Can you hear something noises?
The noises seem make from "piano damper".
When i press sustain pedal and play key strong,
the damper seems shock and make noises.
Is it abnormal?
I have response this question to Kawai.

Dear Lee, I am not sure whether I am hearing what you describe.
So, it might not be as noticeable as the P_B recording.

But in any case with such an high quality piano you should ask from the technician to correct it if possible.

Dear Hakki,
Thanks for the comment. In fact, I recorded this small piece just to discuss the use of a 3rd mic, capturing the sound of the room. But, yes, that noise bothers me too. The floor here is not wood, but stone. I think maybe the noise is related to the sustain pedal, since I have postioned the mics under the open lid, pointing to the strings/soundboard...
I will try different positions next weekend.
By the way, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL DADS HERE!!

Did you do any recording with the stock Zoom 8 mics? I'm considering buying this camera, and want to know how the stock mic sounds. Thanks.

Dear Mark,
I have been trying new RODE mics with the Zoom Q8, solely or together with the Q8 mics.

But previously I have made many recordings using only Zoom Q3HD mics, which are the same stock mics used in Q8, as follows:
ZoomQ3HD - 001
Zoom Q3HD - 002

I hope it helps.
Best wishes.

Shinn, I also like entheo's C7 recording for the clarity and presence. The low end resonates pleasantly. This Shigaru recording has a nice presence too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIMhfWeV8p0 notice the mic technique here. I left some comments on the Chopin on your youtube page. I admire your diligence and desire to keep improving your playing and recording.

Very nice piano and performance, S.H. However, your piano is out of tune. Get that fixed, and your recordings will be wonderful.
