Well there go the Casios.

I noticed on the Kawais that they are pretty noisy too. But in a different manner than the casios..

the kawais i have dealt with (older ones like ES4 ) have an issue of the black keys crackling 'cracking' 'scratching' sounds when you play them .
not sureif they addressed this with newer models. but if not, I won't be buying kawai.

Please note that chain retailers such as Sam Ash and Guitar Center will only have a limited selection of the major DP manufacture's instruments available to play-test. For example these retailers sell the Kawai KDP and Yamaha YDP models, however not the main Kawai CA/CN and Yamaha Clavinova lines, as these are only sold by Kawai and Yamaha piano dealers.

Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own.

I live in California in the East Bay. And I will need both so that I can play on the grand piano (when my sister is gone) and on the digital (when she is resting).

Thanks!

Good point, but since I was only shopping for slab-style pianos, it didn't affect me much. Sam Ash had the MP6 and MP11, my main targets, when I was shopping there -- at a time when I couldn't find floor models of those anywhere else.

FWIW, the black keys on our CN35 sound the same (as in with sound off, just the sound they make when you press them) like the white keys. Nothing I would identify as crackling or scratching.

Kawai CN35. Daughter wanted a piano, so we got one. Now who'll learn faster? ;-)
