Of the 3, the PX-560 is the one that interests me the most. What do you guys think? I really like the metallic blue color and the color touch screen. Also, the form factor is a bit different from the previous Privia ones. Still I'll be keeping my PX-5s. But a PX-5S with a color touch screen would be amazing!

Definitely a +1 to that color touch screen.

And they did actually implement SP-33 support.

They must be listening. laugh

I wouldn't care for the speakers but I'm probably in the minority.

This looks very cool. Is it considered the successor to the PX-5S?

I don't think so. I would call it more "Pro" version of PX-350 but still not a match for PX5-S.

I'm really curious about price points on these Privias. Will they be more or less the same as previous generations? Also the CGP-700 looks pretty nice as well. Looks like this generation of Privias mostly has the touch screen. I believe the only one that doesn't have it is the PX-160. It does look like a very modern design IMO.

Should breath some new life into the Casio DP lines and set them apart for the moment from the rest with that touch screen. But, we're all waiting to see how they improve the PX-5S after a few seasons of user feedback. Now THAT will be exciting.

The PX-560 is a PX-5 with added 17 track midi recorder and a touch screen interface. I believe that's why its blue. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make a PX-6.

Like I said before, I don't think it's PX5S succesor. In some ways it's better:
- it has integrated speakers
- supports half-damping
- has expression pedal
- has score stand
In some ways it's worse:
- 3 knobs instead of 4
- no sliders
- it looks ugly in blue (at least on photos) smile
I also believe it has not PX5s editing features.

PX-5S is a giggers keyboard.
-speakers are a non issue nor even desirable
-half-damping is nice for solo piano thumb
-expression pedal is one of the major requests thumb
-score stand only applicable on some gigs. i like real stands with a light either way. but that's just me.

So good signs about a 5S revision.

Well, I should have written it has some more features. I don't consider integrated speakers to be pros by myself on stage piano. Rest are serious improvements. Shame there is no new piano sample.

I belive we will see PX5-S succesor in something like 2 years.

That's pretty funny since you're comparing to the (ugliest DP) PX5S. smile

That is odd. I do find the PX-5S quite attractive and fashionable. Maybe that's the reason I like the PX-560 so much. It is so different from everything else. Plus I always get complimentsat chuch for how nice the PX-5S looks on stage.

Yeah I put a smiley because I realise we all have different aesthetics tastes.

From the webpage:
A Sound Design For Sound Designers

"Under the hood, the PX-560 is not just a highly capable stage piano, but a full-fledged synthesizer. Unlike most other synths, going deep into sound design is as easy as touching the display. The PX-560 features Casio’s Hex Layer technology, borrowed from the flagship Privia Pro PX-5S. This means you can create massive splits and layers, with four zones and a total of 14 layers at once. What’s more, you can edit these Tones to sculpt them into something new and all your own. There are three realtime control knobs, as well as a modulation wheel, all of which can be controlling up to two assignable parameters at once. With great-sounding filters, responsive envelopes, and extensive modulation, the PX-560 can be a sonic playground as well as a performance instrument."

So yes it can be edited and easier than the PX-5s by the looks of it.

BTW, I like the blue!

I love having speakers in my DP. For one thing, the action feels a bit more realistic when picking up the sympathetic vibrations as happens on an acoustic... speakerless DPs feel a little "dead" by comparison. Second, when getting together for a little "unplugged" (no drums) rehearsal, just to work out parts or vocal harmonies etc., it's nice to be able to just put the thing on its stand, plug it in and play, and not have to also bring an amp (more to carry, probably an extra trip to the car, another power cord to run, two more cable connections to make). And at a wedding gig, internal speakers are often enough for me to play ceremony and/or cocktail hour with, with all those same benefits and much faster setup/knockdown, which also helps when you have to quickly move from cocktail hour to full band reception in the other room. I've had to compromise on this for other reasons, and haven't had speakers in my main DP in a long time, but I miss them. I would consider moving from my PX-5S to a new model, the speakers and the touch screen interface being the main appeal.

I was initially waiting for the PX-360, but the PX-560 with speakers has my interest. If they price this at $999 I'm sold.

Edit: Just saw the MSRPs... Privia PX-360M (MSRP: $1199.99) and PX-560M (MSRP: $1599.99)

Slab DP speakers get completely buried in a cocktail hour. Once the room is in chatter you can't even here yourself playing and if you crank them the vibration in the plastic can get buzzy, depending on build quality. Plus really poor representation of the low end/bass from these dinky speakers they're equipped with. Even an acoustic needs to be opened up in that environment. Outdoors a little different story.

So based on the MSRP we can guess a street price of $799 for the PX-360 and $1,099 for the PX-560?

A pretty capable DP that is also a fine enough synth. Way cool to me.

It's great to see Casio adding new tech/features. A new color touchscreen and associated UI work takes a sh*t ton of man-hours and planning to implement... which gives the impression that they'll be using this new platform for more (as yet unannounced) instruments in the upcoming year. I'm hoping that a new pro board is in the works now that they've got the platform up and running with a very nice full-featured home digital.

Well done Casio!

Depends on the room and the quality of the speakers/amp in the DP. I've done a number of gigs with Roland FP2/FP4 that have been fine.

Ya of course it depends on the DP amp and speakers, and the room, number of guests and tendency to drink too much and get loud, haha. All sorts of acoustic issues. But you definitely run into situations where you're pounding the keys and eff all it doesn't matter what you're playing, cause neither the crowd nor you can hear a bloody thing. A pretty good red flag that you came under equipped. But yes, there are situations where it will work. In which case a DP with speakers means from time to time you can leave the amp or powered monitor in the car. Although, an in tune acoustic grand is even better because you can leave the whole lot home to begin with.

You said it, Dave. The improvements on the 560 bodes well for what we can expect in a PX-5S successor.

Yes to all of that, except in my case, it hasn't been just "from time to time" -- it's been adequate more often than not. If I need more, though, yeah, I grab the amp I was set to use for the reception, or one of the stage vocal monitors. It's nice to not have to, though. I've also been thinking of trying something like a little Bose Soundlink for when I just need a little extra.

Yes it does....

According to musik store koeln the px5s will be a true stagepiano workstation.. To rival both nord stage as wel as all synthworkstations (maybe with the exception of the Kronos)

If its true that Casio bought the technics music legacy from panasonic, we might be in for a huge surprise..

The touchscrean really promisses a lot..

Yet i am hoping to see the UI in action in some NaMM videos...

Yeah obviously they saw my "King for a day" thread! No need to thank me. Though I should get a stipend. smile

Anyway, if the keys themselves are the same they lost me at hello. Sigh.

I love the blue! And I prefer it over the PX-5s look. Color touch screen just makes sense these days.
