May I please be excused for Saturday 20June?
We were in Belgium for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

On Sunday we hooked up with Saranoya! We had a great time!

pdxfz1- I missed your post! Sorry about the migraines. That is miserable. I lived in the Pacific NW before moving to Switzerland. I know what you mean about the change from forever cloudy to bright sun! I hope you are feeling better.

Back home after almost three weeks on the road. Had a fabulous time, including doing some desert hiking in 105F temps.

I did--literally--touch a piano, but it had a large piece of driftwood sitting on the fallboard, so no playing.

Due to a vacation in another country I could not play piano from 21th to 28th of June... I had a great holiday but unfortunately could not arrange/find a piano to enjoy it even more! Please put me back on the vagon...
Best regards

SwissMS, I have to be excused for 26/6 to 3/7, working like a maniac 18 hour days, and could get nowhere near my piano. Devastating to say the least, but I'm back today, trying to catch up.

An adult returning to piano, or beginning, is so much more aware than the kids of just what is involved to be able to play a piece of music beautifully. We have already fallen in love with different pieces we have heard, and appreciate the skill it takes that the great pianist have developed. So when we are deprived of any time in our meagre attempts to grow with this skill it seems just that - devastating...Lucky are the ones born with that natural talent.
Keep on creeping along. Time passes all too quickly but one day you will be able to play it better than you did yesterday, or the day before, or the week before, or the month before. You know for sure you will be a month older - as will everyone else in the world - but YOU - you will be able to play that piece just a bit better than you could.

Thanks Palmpirate smile

I was just pleasantly surprised by my practice today, so far only an hour of it, but I was able to play the two pieces I'm working on pretty well (for where I'm at). I started out slow, and was surprised at being able to pretty much 'picking up where I left'. I have lost a bit of 'speed' and smoothness, and my hands are stiff and sore (from typing), but haven't forgotten anything. So not as much 'damage' as I had expected really. I guess a week 'off' isn't the end of the world as we know it, as long as it doesn't happen too often laugh

You are so right about the age issue. 40-50 years ago, I wouldn't have thought anything of it I'm sure, but there days I'm keenly aware of 'time lost'. What matters most though, is the sheer joy of being back on the bench smile

Well, we are at it again....

Here is my current piano "room":

Decided it was time for some new paint! So the past 2 days's practice have consisted only of some scales and arpeggios. Since I've disconnected the pedals, monitors, and music rest, that's really all I want to do. Hopefully we will be able to do the walls today and move everything back in place by tomorrow!

The European Piano Party in Switzerland is complete, and we had a marvellous time. So now I have a little time to catch up on this thread.

Sempianist - I have you excused from June21-28.

Jytte - I hope your work situation had settled down! I have you excused from June 26-July 3.

torquenale - Have a wonderful vacation from July 6-21!

Morodiene - Even silent scales count! Hopefully your piano room will be back in order soon!

Swiss MS,

I was absent from the piano July 2 and 3 due to illness. I'm better now and back at it. Thanks so much.

OK, confession time! I missed playing piano yesterday. Did I touch a piano? Yes. I moved it back into my newly-painted room. Did I press any keys? Yes. I accidentally pressed down some keys in transit. But was I playing? No.

I meant to get back to it to play later that night, but totally spaced it.

So I'm back on the wagon today! smile
